If theres not a date and you can find any of the Marines immediate relatives they can act over power of attorney as long as the Marine gives permission as a witness to the selling of said vehicle since he is overseas(thats how it is in VA anyways).

VA doesnt require a notarization, all we need is a signature, the rest can be filled out by whoever and whenever they want, if I sign my title and leave it laying around, anyones free to steal the title and fill out the info and boom, they got my car...lol

If you are only missing the Notary....just find a Notary to stamp it for you. I have done that here countless times. Of course.....to be a Notary around here requires.......ahhhh.....just paying a fee to the state. ANYBODY can be a Notary.

My '72 beater was from NC and was being parted out because of the exact same problem. I've still got the title, but I think it's worthless now. It's a Pennsylvania title and has someone in NC listed as the buyer in 2004, but the title was never actually transferred over to the buyers name. Don't know who the seller or buyer listed on the title are, never met them, I bought the car from someone on this board. Non issue for me anyway, GA dosen't require titles for cars 1985 and older. You just have a cop come out and run the VIN to check that it's not stolen or anything, then go get a tag for it.

Just about anyone can be a Notary in NC. Its not a big deal. Just have have a recommendation (e.g., from a State Representative), pass a test AND TAKE AN OATH. Think most NC Notaries take the oath seriously and would not say they witnessed a signature when they didn't. But you might find someone.

we don't notarize them here any more as well, just buyer and seller, the key here is the date, if its dated and not changed to the new owners name with in a certain amount of time (title fees and taxes) you have to pay a penalty fee for the "back" taxes and here too it gets to be a real pain to straighten out one thats been jacked up by people before, singning the wrong spot, more than one person signing it and not transfering it , you name it , the key is finding a person that will help in your area that knows your states rules, my friends used some of the get a title companies, and one like in GA. that don't require a title after so old, just a bill of sale, well if you take a bill of sale from out of state to our dmv be prepared to have the fight of your life as they don't recognize it as being legal and you may spend more time and money than if you had went to a state that issued a title, but I think a good car is worth all the work it takes to get it all straightened out...

Just get a bill of sale from an Alabama or Georgia member. Since titles were not required for that old of a car in those states, your state will then have to issue you a new title in your state.

Same works for Arkansas, as I mentioned earlier.

But, it's not exactly the best choice I would think to resolve the matter

I've been a notary (in Texas) for 11 years. Titles here don't require a notary. There is a spot for it on the title, but it isn't necessary to have it done. May be the same case there.

Bought an old jeep this way. The title had been signed over to a major car dealership, then on to two tote-the-note places, both now out of business. I just went to the owner of record. Believe me, he was not happy he was still listed as owner. He had traded it in for a new car, that was by now paid off. He filed for a lost title, since he was officially the owner, and he signed it over to me. I had already shown him the jeep, and the bill of sale I had. His address had been changed in the state rolls to somewhere in Ft Worth, where he doesn't live. He was plenty po'd, and was glad to fix it. I paid for the lost title, and his gas money to go get the title. I'd hate to work at the dealership. He had a forty-year business relationship with them. He said he'd "speak to them personally" LOL

Probably better off because it could run into a lot of trouble.
