Smokes looks like you're burning some oil. When was the last time you checked/changed the oil? With it not starting you may have gotten some gas past the rings and deluted the oil. You may need to change it and go to a thicker oil. 30wt or maybe 40wt (40 is to thick in cold weather), but no 10w30 or 10w40. If you are burning oil, you may want to do a compression check to determine the engine condition. Also the hard start may be an indication that you need at least a tune up. Pull a spark plug and check the color. Wet and oily?(burning oil) Black sooty?(to much fuel, running rich) or beige? (just right).

You may also want to find and join a local car club. This wont fix your car, but you will get with guys that can help and you can learn from guys that know more about cars and know shops that are reputable.

Just my two cents hope it helps.

Ill probally changed the oil next week end or some time soon. I just got a Tune up 7 months ago. How many months should i wait to get another one... well i was wondering what the size and stuff was on the dome light? and when your head lights are on is there a light for your gages, i know theres a red light that comes on when your brights are on but what about just the low beams?

get tune up and oil changes as much as you can, these are old engines and clean oil will keep them around alot longer. tune up are also very simple too, theres no reason you shoould have to pay someone to do these for you. the knob you pull out to turn your lights on can aslo be turned right or lef to adjust the brightness of your gauge lights. i dont think there is an indicator to let you know your headlights are on, just that red one for the brights.

The points get out of adjustment due to wear. This can happen in a few weeks. Replace the points with a Pertronix unit and eliminate that adjustment. Plugs should be checked as well. If you stay with points, get a dwell meter to check the points settings. I would check this stuff every month as just part of normal maintenance. Oil change and tune up.

I have hear alot of people talk about points, it has to do with the iginiton..SO if i but this dwell meter how to i check the points, and where are they located? and when i turn the light knob it doesnt change the any thing on the gauage. So my lights must be burned out or what? and if they were how in the world would i change them out.

Points are inside the distributor. They are set with a feeler guage for a proper gap when open. A dwell meter tests the open adjustment electronically to ensure the gap is correct. It is more accurate then just a feeler guage (metal strip). If you are not familar with this basic operation you will need a factory or aftermarket manual for this setting. It is very simple.

A DSII is easy to install, but based on your tech knowlege I would go with the Pertronix for low cost (less then $70.)and ease of installation (replaces points & Condensor, just two screws and two wires to install).

You need to buy a Chilton or Haynes manual as a factory manual will assume knowlege you do not have. The other manuals are designed more for consumers and the factory manual is written for techs that have a broad basic and product background.

Again, join a Ford club and make some friends with a greater level of knowlege on these cars. It will expose you to the skills you will need and make the car ownership a better experiance.

No one here will turn you down for help, but with local assistance you will be in a better position to fix and enjoy your car. Making new friends could be good too!

I put petronix on my Mav and it was the smartest thing that i did on my car. It starts great and very easy to install and cheep. It cost me about $140 canadian so about $110 us . There are two wires to hook up and a feeler gauge comes with it to set the gap.:drive:
