My car is an original 3-speed car, and I plan on keeping it a manual until I get old. Anyways, at first I was leaning towards a T5 because they are light, easy to rebuild, and are internal rail. However, they are really weak transmissions as some of you may know. I was wondering a few things. First, isnt the toploader 4-speed a pretty dang bulletproof transmission? Better than a T5 at least? Also, my 3-speed used to have problems with linkage bindup. Im sure the factory shifter had alot to do with that, but are the 4-speeds the same way? Finally, can you powershift a toploader the same way you can powershift a T5? Thats another thing I liked about my T5. It was a very smooth-shifting transmission. Thanks, AC
I've owned many toploaders and T10 4 speeds over the years. The factory Ford linkage was always kinda sloppy although I never once had any binding problems. In my younger years I probably power shifted more than I shifted normal. (speed shifting is for sissies). I always ditched the factory stuff for a Hurst. Money well spent. There is not much in this world more fun (to me) that taking my Sprint out and banging them gears.
Swellness Your words make me happy. This means I have more transmission options than I originally anticipated. AC
