I've never seen a tranny bolt up,,, without busting a almond joy on tranny bolts,,,, and the converter not being seated. Never draw the tranny in with the bolts as you will damage the pump,,, find the problem. Sounds like this is not the problem here,,, I could be wrong

before i put the trans on the motor, which i did out of the car i did spin the converter to make sure it was in place and the trans slipped right on i didnt use the trans bolts to pull it to the motor so i know the converter is in place right.i really think i dont have the shift cable adjusted right will try to adjust it sunday i really think thats the first thing i need to elimanate.and it could be as simple as that i hope you see i have never put a new shifter in before but i have done several trannies.
thanks for all the input dkstuck

If the pump was a problem I would expect it to do nothing but make noise no matter what gear it is in. adjust the shifter - with the shifter in Drive and the transmission in drive. Always fill and check the oil level in a C4 idling in Park.

ok so i promised an update:tried twice to adjust the linkage wasnt happining so i lifted the car and set it on 4 jack stands so i would have more room to work and figure out what i was doing wrong.so i went back to the instructions and there it was i had the shift lever hurst suppies to far forward got it all set then test it put it in reverse let off the brake and the wheels started to spin put it in neutral stopped put it in drive started to spin forward back into park stopped.did this twice same thing both times so i think i got it.oh and when i pulled the cable off the lever then put the shifter in neutral and the trans in neutral i was a good 1/4 inch off.

p.s. should i run the trans vacum by itself to the manifold or can i run it like this pic.

one line goes to trans and one to carb(vacum secondary)
and yes the trans did not squeal any.i think the squealling was coming from my v-belt.but the trans did sound good.

The carb has internal passages for the vacuum secondaries - If that line runs to the carb then it is probably is running to a vacuum passage that is supposed o go to the distributor or some other device. Hooking the modulator to it is fine either way. Just make sure that you have vacuum going to all the places it is supposed to.

ok thanks paul my dizzy is electronic so no need for vacum there and every thing else is hooked up so should i just cap the tube coming off the carb and just run vacum to the modulator.

It is plugged - into the vacuum - I wouldn't worry about changing it as plugs sometimes pop off and hoses are more prone to stay in place.
