I talked to dynamic convertors in Delaware..he has a 9 1/2 for $550 AND 8 inch for $900,, he said about 1500 rpm below shift point..
I have done business with Dynamic and I would go to EDGE Convertors before them. I have a Trans brake custom made by Dynamic and after my case cracked the problem was the High pressure from the Valve body. Don't think they are on top of the game and I bet they rebrand the convertor. Just a guess.
Ought to talk to some other folks who run the NHRA stock and super stock classes and see what they think. A generic converter from X builder may be utterly backwards of what a Stock/auto car would want. Or maybe not. Some of the best converter builders in the USA are not big names......
I am running a 1800 with a shift kit an modified C4 tranny. This is with a mild cam from Crain. Here is my engine .[
I agree with you Mav Man Some of the so call big names build the worst Converters I had a TCI 3000 That Was still slipping at 6000 RPM! I lost 11 mph for my top speed because the converter never locked up! I use a Broader 4000 converter and I am real impressed how close jay got the stall to what it is supposed to be!
With the 1800 stall, does that mean - rpm's have to get to 1800 B4 the car goes in motion? Going to have my C4 rebuilt soon and wondering if I should go w/ stock or step up just a hair. My car is a mild upgraded engine w/ stock 2.79 gears -- it's only a street/road cruiser.
That they rate for stall speed is with the transmission in gear at idle floor the throttle and the RPM will flash to a point before it engages this will be your stall. This will vary depending on the Torque of the engine if the engine has more torque the stall will be higher. if you drive easy the torque will stall lower if you Foot Brake a 1800 stall will be locked up by 1500 RPM
In my experience an 1800 convertor is almost stock. When I had my 351W with a cam of fairly large duration and TCI 2500 stall convertor it would idle at 1000 RPM. Below that it would stall. In gear it idled a 800 RPM. Throttle response with that convertor was immediate regardless of RPM. With the foot brake on in gear and at idle, many times the car would attempt to lurch forward about every 5 seconds due to the large duration cam. One guy that drove it said it was akin to trying to hold back a racehorse that wanted to run.
Mojo......I presume you are NEVER going to drag race the car....you will want a stock converter in my opinion.
That is what I am going to get; my drag racing days long behind me. I was just curious! When I was racing, manual shifters were my choice and pretty much the norm. Thanks for you input -- Don't want to go w/ something I am not satisfied with -- when I like what I have...
I ran my maverick yesterday,,i still have the 2800 stall convertor.,I shifted at 6200 at dropped to 4500. Is to tight of convortor ?. C4 TRANS THANKS
