Trailer for the Maverick

18 foot....bigger the better. My trailer only has a 1 foot dovetail and I dont have a problem loading!

 

Brakes on both axles for hauling a car would be nice but it is again overkill for hauling a Maverick. But better to have them and not need them then the otherway around.

It isn't really that big of a job or that much money to put brakes on the other axle if you decide you need them later. You can get the brakes to put on your axle or the entire axle with the brakes on it for less than a couple hundred through places like Harbor Freight and they are good axles.

If you get the wooden deck it won't be a problem as long as you keep it clean and make sure your bolts stay ticht. If you don't keep it clean it can start to rot and if you don't keep the bolts tight it may warp, but I have seen trailers with the wooden decks that are 25 years old and still look great with no problems at all with the original wood.

Buy the biggest you can afford. If you go with the 16 you should have plenty of trailer but if you decide later you need 18 or more you always have the 16 to sell and take that $$ ad to it and buy the 18'

Whatever you decide good luck. I have been looking around, here in Maryland for a good used dual axle trailer at a resonable price for a few years now and just can't find a good used one at a decent price. So with that in mind if you have the $$ go buy a new one

 

I highly recommend the 18 ft Big Tex trailer with dove tail. That's what I have and I have a stone shield on the front with a big aluminum tool box and still have plenty of room for the car. My car loads with NO problems and the fenders are not in the way either. I can have my drivers door open as I drive the car up and it clears the fender. Big Tex makes a fine trailer.

If anyone sees one used for sale, give me a holler. I will check the local classifieds, and then buy one new if I have to in a few months.

 

The nice part about a removable fender is when hauling a junk car...or broken down car...so you can get the door open.

I got tired of the fight and made my trailer a tilt. that I recomend, I have an 8000 pound winch mounted on the front it's like having my own rollback.

Good choice. The Big Tex 70DM is the most common one used amongst racers here (that I've noticed).

You know how low my car is and how low my headers hang. They do not drag when loading/unloading the car on my 70DM.

'Comes with one axle with electric brakes - works fine for me.

18' = bestest.

That was a Comet I dragged home from a junkyard about 3 years ago. It had been sitting there for about 20 years. It had nice bumpers and manual steering.....well....at least the rear bumper.

 

I might want to sell it. Want to drive to Indiana?

Dennis (Mavaholic) and Doug Bauer all drove to Indiana to get a NEW one just like it. It was cheaper than buying one where they lived.

 

If the price is right, I could make that drive...
