So my tranny is starting to act up now,it goes into 1st and 2nd but when I try to put into drive it feels like its in neutral, its a rebuilt c-4 with a shift kit,its my daily driver so I have to drive it right now,I gotta adjust it from 1st to drive a couple times when to get it into drive though, also when I'm driving it,it goes thru 1st and 2nd good but when it tries to go into 3rd it takes awhile to get into gear,if anybody can help me id appreciate it a lot thanks
If you put it in drive and start accelerating how does it behave? What are the speeds it shifts at when it is in drive? Do all of the gear work? If not which ones don't and if things are only "once in a while" when does it happen - cold, hot, first thing in the morning? From your description it is difficult for me to understand exactly what is going wrong.
Sometimes it drives good but other times it feels like its slowly going into gear, and it goes thru 1st and 2nd perfect but then when it goes to 3rd it shoots to nuetral for a couple seconds then goes into third, and its mostly all the time when it does it morning or night time
OK, so you are experiencing a 2-3 flare. That means that when the transmission shifts from 2nd to 3rd the engine will rev like it is in neutral and then hit third gear. When 3rd finally engages does it hit hard or does it just slide into gear?
It sounds like this transmission either has a lot of miles on it or it has been very warm more than once. The symptoms you are descibing are pointing to bad sealing of the direct clutch. It may also be a sticky 2-3 shift valve but that happens a lot less than the seals going bad. How many miles are on the transmission since the last rebuild - oh, and how many years?
its only been about 1500 miles and about 5 months ago rebuilt, and what do you mean very warm?? like it didnt have enough fluid in it?
By very hot I mean that the transmission had to get to about 300 degrees more than a few times to heat the rubber seal to get it hot enough to make it hard. I wouldn't think that 1500 miles is enough miles to do this. If the fluid was low it might contribute but if it had enough fluid to shift into 2nd it should have enough to go into third. If your transmission was rebuilt by a shop you should take it back and have them fix it. They may not have replaced the seal, it might be a defective part or it might have been cut during installation. Things like that happen occassionally. They can also check the valve body to make sure it isn't a sticking 2-3 shift valve. They can tell a great deal by driving the car and running pressure tests that I can't do over the net.
