mine has the cables crossing at the top, they are for lifting both arms at the same time. transmission jacks, oil changing tanks, small work table on wheels or anything on wheels that may be rolled from one end to the other of the car/truck. I'm sure the bottom cable lifts have a purpose just wouldn't work for me. I first saw them in a transmission shop and the Guy was trying to make me a great deal on it. when we talked he explained the differences to me. he had three other lifts that he used...
How much ceiling clearance do you need with that lift with the cable on the bottom? The one Frank has I am 6 inches short on ceiling height.
the shop im renting is a low clearence shop so i had to go with this ;( there is a beam in the way. i have enough headroom for working on cars, but my truck is another story, might be doing some squatting to work on that. i would much rather got the top cross bar. in a perfect world i would have gotten an in floor.
a friend of mine has a "short roof lift" and he said he sits in a roll around chair to work on his car...
Thanks for the explanation on the differences. I see what you mean. I also see what Bomrat's dilemma, why he went w/ the type of unit he chose. I guess either one you have is a lot better than workin on jack stands.
