TL, my remarks were less than serious, other than the part about non-mandrel pipe being sub-par.
Sometimes I try to 'get people's goat', so to speak.
You need not make it so easy.;)
    It's all good.

    About sound...
Exhaust gas travels slower in larger pipe. This increases bass tones, or deep rumble, but actually decreases the volume.
Smaller pipe is louder, while bigger pipe is the kind of deep toned that you don't so much hear as feel.

Two 1973 LDO Mavericks (one 4 Drag one 4 driving like Mad on the roads :) ) also have a 75 6cyl Stock! Ok, well sort of Stock :P
nice we can always count on you.

but sometimes they true but in that ones case you can call it true. ;)

right on the nose! my car is an prime example of that. i had 2-1/2 all the way out the back with chambered muffers... very very loud! i swaped them out for that set up... hoping for a nastier scare me sound... and well it is about 10 times quiter then before with the 3 inchers.

The shops in my area that bend pipes for exhaust work use mandrel benders... When I make my own I don't but it really doesn't matter. If I was going to race it I would uncap the headers and put a racing muffler on it.

No...numbers never lie. However, that still did not answer the original question. While it is nice to be a magazine hack and have damned nice exhaust work done for free by one of the best manufacturers in the business.........that doesn't help the "average hot rod guy" one bit.

What I find interesting is the number of ideas and theory thrown around on this thread without anyone finding out the specifics of Slk70's combination.

So how about it Slk......what's the combo?

    You are so weird.

Ouch! Easy SD. Derrick is a nice fella. Not a hack.
    I am an exhaust builder.
I am also a hack with 3" duals.
    hehehe

I have 3" out of my 6901's, with flowmasters and dumped at the rear axle. There are soooooo many variables here, altitude, barometer, motor variances that we just cannot give a certain answer to this. I am certain that this is a just a question that cannot be a run of the mill answer. To each his own so to speak. Find what works for you and go with it, that is what I did.

Yep! but I don't resort to name calling.
On the street it is darn hard to find room around the fuel line on my Mavericks at the tank so I just put 2 1/2" pipes on. I suppose if you wanted to you could run any size exhausts if flow and sound was real important to you. My car doesn't have the room for that. Besides, how many people need that "flow" and "sound" on the street? How often do you hit and hold WOT for more than a couple of seconds while driving to work and the grocery store?
