    Good detailed pics of the shock tower to header/manifold clearance.And if possible close-ups of the engine/motor mount area.

    Transmission info would be nice too. That huge engine can't be running through a C4...right?

    Wow - when I still had my shock towers, I had less room with my Cleveland than this 429 has - surprising :yup:

    Have you tried to at least turn this engine over by hand yet? From the rust that I see, it sure has been sitting a long time. See if your water pump spins free also.

    its definetely a 429, 460 based motor, if you look just below the center bottom bolts of the valve cover , around the exhaust ports. you will see some numbers, they should read dooe-r id cobra jet or super cobra jet.
    c8ve , dove - c are good heads . the d3ve heads can be made to work. d2ve are not the best the others are more desirable. there is also a police interceptor head and for life of me i haveing a brain fart and cant remember the number. the ports just from your pics dont look large enough to be sc's but i really cant tell. the intake ports on the manifold would be a huge mismatch. but the 429 , 460 motors can be made into monsters. good luck with your build. :chirp:

    Yup the motor turns over and the water pump spins freely.

    i think the exhaust on a big block turns down even more than:drive: a cleveland. never compared them before tho.

    If you get a chance, would be nice to see some better pics of the engine mounts, more info. This looks alot less tight than a 351 install. Any idea on what brand headers its got?

    Ok whats the deal?? Why so much shock tower clearance?? Strange.

    Are you going to pull the engine for clean-up and detail ? If so post some pics,of the frame and motor mounts,and the bottom of the shock tower area.

    For some reason,at certain angles it looks like 67-68 mustang shock towers have been used.

    Here is 2 shots of my Cleveland back when it was sitting in between untouched shock towers with Tubular Automotive headers. It just seems hard to believe that a 429 would be more narrow than a Cleveland.

    Maybe there is something different with these towers :huh:
