As a matter of fact I do. I'd take the S.F.Cs I have on my car any day over that contraption....

This is getting out of hand and setting the record...

This is getting out of hand and setting the record straight. First of all this car is "NOT" going to the track. I have stated this numerous times even before this thread. Secondily, the subframe connectors are "NOT" welded onto the frame. This is all prelimanary work and the cross members of the subframe connectors have not even been cut yet to serve like the montecarlo bar in the engine bay.

Now, of course safety is a "BIG" concern as it should be but some of you guys already have me at the race track racing Don Garlits? What offended me about all of this was the "snide' comments. "My nine year old can do a better welding job." Show me your time slips of running in the 10's". "There's no way the car weighs 2330 lbs." "You can't handle the truth." "You have to be politically correct etc."

I don't give a rats behind about being politcally correct. I can also handle the truth. And most of all I don't "lie" or make things up like the weight of the car. Somebody put a site on these boards that gave the weight of the car from the factory. I was told by the engine builder that the car would run in the 10's and I even documented that fact by posting the souce.

I like it here because I can "escape" the cares of the world and discuss how excited I am about cars. I see guys always posting pictures of their progress and not once have I seen anybody make a derogoratory comment. The thing that offended me were the snide comments as if your above others. In short, it really hit me the wrong way. Were suppose to be adults here and like I said I'm 62 years old, a Vietnam veteran and all I want to do is enjoy my last years. And do you want to know something else? You have no idea how many people called me crazy/an idiot for putting that motor in "comet." They would say who the hell cares about comets or mavericks blah blah.

Lastly, let me just say I appreaciate the emails and the concerns and I never take things lightly like safety. Just remember never to "assume" and please treat others like you would want to be treated. Sorry for all the trouble I started but let us put this behind and move forward beating those rice burners and chevy's. :tiphat:

    Ohh boy, here we go...

One would assume that those posting have "corect" connectors on their car or have some sort of back ground knowledge in what we are talking about. I personally do various fabrication 5-6 days a week, 10-12 hours a day and was not speaking on the design it self (I did comment on it beside the point), but more from a fabrication point of view (welds suck, tubeing was cut to long, the hoop is lopsided, ect.) Those are not acceptable errors where I work.

I see no one whineing or complaining. I see people genuinely concerned about the safety of the person operateing the car. The fact that it is "someones hard work" is irrelevant because it is sub-par work. If I did something like that my boss would just laugh if I told him it was hard work. If you actually read the tread rather then just skimming over it, you would see several have offered suggestions on improveing it. I can quote them for you if you like.

The welds in question are obviously permanent at the joints of the material. Notice that it is not just tach welded together, it is fully welded, leading me to believe the guy had no intentions of takeing it back apart or re welding it. You tach weld stuff together when you are just fitting it up, not fully weld it. I can draw you a picture circleing the welds in question if you like.

I work with professionals everyday. Yea, what you say makes you feel all warm and fuzzy, but in the real world when you screw up and it costs a good bit of money and time, respect dosen't seem factor into the equasion. It's more like 'what the hell is this garbage? Start over and do it RIGHT this time, or get out of here.'

The make of the car has nothing to do with what we are talking about. (and personally, I'd take a Comet over a Maverick any day)

In closing, Terry and Frank said it best. :)

Sorry, I have to admit I get a kick out of these petty little arguements and don't really take them to seriously. I love playing the devil's advocate to see what people have to say. :evilsmile Always funny when people practice what they preach against as far as belittleing others, disrespectfulness, rudeness...

Then why bother? Why waste the money and create all the ugliness?. If a car is not going to see track time, then a standard set of S.F.C.s between the front and rear subframes would be quite sufficient, cheaper, and look a heck of a lot better...

From my previous post at the top of page three if you would have bothered to read it. I don't have a lot of money to work on my projects, so I can't post up pics of anything, because I spent $100,000 on my engineering degree. So, you'll just have to imagine up some pics in your mind. The Cliff's notes basically go like this. "What James has installed on his car won't work, because it lacks basic structural fundamental design. Install normal subframe connects like everyone else. Add a roll cage for additional stiffness."
