That's right. Too bad they didn't list a date when they switched to a locking column. But judging by this table and your reported "Marti" date of October, your ignition must have been installed before 10/01/69, but the car not finished until after. So your October date is the date it left the line?

But then the table says lockable columns up to 10/01/69. I would think that switch SW-882 was short-lived.

Maybe your car used the last dash ignition switch in stock??. I wonder if the engineering number on the column or dash 'shroud' around the switch would yield any info.

...and we are kinda getting a 'little' off topic for this thread...;) ...but I can't stop...

And a BIG Thank You to rThomas for the table!:thumbs2:

Well we're at least still on a VIN subject, Paul

That locking column "before and after" date data only helps in my case if I had a locking column to begin with. The non locking column data, saying just simply "all" doesn't help much either in determing a cut off date when Ford switched over to the full blown 1970 models. I thought that it was possible that Ford might have been using up the left over stock of ignitions/columns/harness too but the new 70's would have been introduced in September 1969 and my guess is that every one of those new models would have been displayed with those brand new column ignitions. Kind of weird that after the intoduction that Ford would go back to making older models just to use the stuff up. It would make more sense to just put the 69.5 ignitions into replacement parts stock :hmmm:

Too bad Kevin Marti didn't have a field in his Marti reports for Mavericks that said "Your car was 1 of XXX,XXX with this Ignition Switch". Then we'd know how close you are to the end of 69.5's!:rofl2:

This will be something that I will still pursue in my spare time. Maybe someone from the local dealership might be able to help me? I'll FB him and see what info he can get, maybe on microfiche.

Cars are not necesarily built "in order" based on the VIN...so it would be real difficult to determine which one was the last 1969.5.

Order was received and serialized prior to 10/01, maybe this could be the reason it's a legit '69.5???

The locking ign/steering column was mandatory for all vehicles beginning 01/01/70, '70 Falcon never changed to a locking column and were discontinued...

So I guess the next question would be: at what point in the timeline would the dash/column/wiring harness, etc be assigned to the car?

I only have the standard Marti Report and don't have it right now to look at but I don't recall having this much information so is this a more deluxe report?

Good question, I'll guess the assembly plants used all the ignition in dash components and then switched to the locking column...

Estimated amount of components were ordered from the vendor(s) well ahead of the vehicles build date(no doubt even before it was ordered), actual change over could vary by assembly plant dependent on depletion of parts... The Oct 1 changeover date in the catalog is likely a est...

Not much doubt Moneymaker1's Mav is one of the last 69.5 built at KC...

Does anyone have a 1970 window sticker??? Did they list locking column as a feature??? Since it was a new security item I'd guess it was...

    Paul,

One thing that you might consider doing with the 69.5 cars is to put an icon by the VIN's that have been confirmed to be a 69.5 version based on the ignition location. Maybe by a simple photo?

We should then see a pattern develop in your 1970 list :)

I can't do anymore images in the posts with the list, as there is a 50 image maximum. I was thinking of using font colour to sort out the differences, but was worried it might make the list too hard to read.

I was thinking RED for "RIP/Junkyard" cars. Maybe PURPLE for 69.5's, and so on and so on. I do agree that the list could be a bit better, info wise. One thing is for sure, the list is getting bigger!
