Vintage Maverick/Comet photos

In trying to show my kids what a REAL blizzard is, my wife ran across this picture of the Blizzard of 1978 in Indiana.

I found this on a Facebook page that I belong to: "Pennfield Dragway"





And look at those horrible people sitting on top of that 71 Grabber on the side-lines!!

 

Cool! Is that a Stabber decal on it? Hard to make out.

 

I saw the side pipes and thought the same thing. It's pretty hard to make out. I somehow doubt it's an actual Pugmire Stabber, since the dragstrip is in Canada, but you never know.

Actually, the Pugmire decal is a lot larger than the one on this Comet.

 

I love those Pennfield photos. So many of the old drag photos are of big name drivers and funny cars. It's cool to see stuff like this. I picture these to be a better representation of the way things really were at most small drag strips in the late 60s/early 70s.

 

Here's another one. It's the same car that I posted some colour pictures of a few pages back, with smoke rolling out of the rear wheel wells!
