I worked all summer and saved every nickel possible to buy my first car. My parents nixed the deal I had made on my best friend's brother's '55 BelAir for $300. It was a great deal. So, out of spite, I went to a junkyard and pulled out a'58 Impala for $25. It was in good shape, just missing the drivetrain. I bought a '59 BelAir for $100 and put the 348/powerglide in the Impala, painted it Corvette Nassau Blue, bucket seats from a '63 Cutlass, redid the back seat to match the buckets and I built my first car. I kept it at a friend's house until it was finished and then drove it home. I had a lot more than $300 in it when I was finished. However, it was my car, my way!! Sold it a year later and bought a '65 Mustang 289/3spd car. Drove that one until my senior year in college when I bought a '69 Torino GT.

Parents should never promise something that important to a kid and then go back on their word. That was 45 years ago and I still remember it like it was today. You can bet I treated my son differently.

My first car was a 1964 Impala SS, 300 HP 327, Posi rear end and a 3 on the tree. Kinda weird for a SS but there she was. Paid $100 for her in 1975. Looking back now I should have bought the car sitting right next to her. It was a 1960 Dodge 2 DR station wagon with a 346 Red Ram Hemi in it.
My first Mav was purchased in 1983 from a car lot in Radcliff, KY. 1977 2DR 302, Auto, PS, PB and A/C, had 24,000 on the ticker. That was the start of my long love affair with these cars. I have owned 30 now and still have 6. After 3 wives I found one that understands the affair and accepts it.
    Life is good!!!!!

My first car was a 72 maverick with a 200 I6 and c4. Bought it from an old lady for $300. My parents let me borrow a $1000 to get it going, I painted it grabber yellow, grabber hood, bucket seats, and baby moon wheels. I worked after school at an auto parts store to pay my mom and dad back and to feed the fire...lol.

I had my license for three days when my dad let me take it to the race track and run it in trophy class. Went six rounds and won my first race in that car. Man i miss that car.

Dug up an old pic...this pic is with the 302 and 5 lug conversion.

    First Car

The Maverick was not in production at that time. My first car was 1957 Plymouth 318 ci. w/ pushbutton shift, 4 dr. Sedan. I loved that push button shift.
Im sure not to many folk here are familiar w/ the pushbutton shifter. I bought the car in 1963 or 64 don't recall for sure.
I don't know if I wud have bought a Mav or not at the time.

My first car was a 48 plymouth club coupe (had a back seat). 217Cu.In flat head straight six and 3 on the tree. Drove it on and off all through high school. That car was so reliable it wasnt funny...Just sold it off about 2 yrs ago. My dad picked it up in 75 as a running driver for 200.00. He drove it for 3 yrs (summer and winter) as a daily driver. Finally the piston rings were so bad it took a can of STP oil treatment at every gas fill up to keep it starting when you wanted it too. Dad finally parked it in 78. It sat in the garage till 81 when dad gave it to me fix up and drive. I miss that car...

You are to nice....today most people seem to take advantage of nice guys....BE careful...you got a good heart man:tiphat: and I hope you find some real friends on this site. 99 percent of guys/gals here are honest and good peoples!!!!:Handshake I too have run into some crazy people. My dad got screwed on half his money to paint his 67' Cougar....he did not listen to me. I heard the guy was just starting to get hooked on meth.....prior to that the guy did great work. Anyways the cougar finally got taken care off but lesson learned. Dad lost around $2500. He paid half labor and all paint/supllies up front!!! I had to go down their with a shot gun to get him to give back what money he could and to get the car. I heard he was trying to sell my dads car too......idiot.....anyway like I said in the end we found a new paint guy who is a great friend today. So,things worked out for the better. He even painted the car half price!!!! A real stand up guy. He knew the guy and recommended him as he was behind on a few jobs himself.....so he felt the right thing to do was make it right even if it wasn't his fault...

My first car was indeed a Maverick...a 1970 my Mom bought new and handed down to me in 1977

Just a standard, 6-cyl automatic with no options. Metallic green, black interior. Only had about 10,000 mles on it when I got it, basically, it was still a new car. Was a blast to drive.

I wish I had kept it, but I sold it to buy a 70 Mach-1 Mustang....so it went to a good cause. Sadly, I don't think I even have a picture of the Mav....but it looked like this one....
