Wish I had a 1970 grabber in coral blue........... DREAM ON
Well I only WISH I was born back in the day when Americans still HAD VALUES!!!!!!!!
I am VERY fortunate in that my dad is an EXCELLENT mechanic,,,, and Ive worked on TONS of cars..... From a 1965 plymouth barracuda ALL ORIGIONAL #S to a plain old honda civic......Cars have always been a part of me; theyre MORE than just a form of transportation........ When I told my old man I wanted to get a classic car HE WAS A LITTLE HESITANT! (more like DREAM ON KID!) Old vehicles aren't "as" safe,,, harder to maintain, LOTS of $$$ for gas,, AND with "ALL THAT POWER UNDER THE HOOD" ,,,,, But after we talked ,,,,, BUT what are the positives of owning an old car.......... HMMMMM.... Ill be have the hottest ride in school..... Ill be ALOT more careful with it.... Ill be proud of it... AND mabey JUST mabey.... My first car will stay with me for a LONG LONG time.........
I fell in LOVE the first time I saw a Mav at the dragstrip,, The lines were perfect,, THE THING WAS A ROCKET!!!!!! (of course it was a racer!)
Ive done LOTS of research on classic cars that would be suitable and a little easier on the $$$
AND at the top of my affordability list is the Mav and the 1965 stang........
Currently I've got $7000 hard earned cash..... AND a permit......
    I WANT A CAR SOOOON!
Its gonna be a Ford Maverick..:ratrod:

Go for it Chris. From reading your posts you have done a good bit of research and know what you want. I got my Maverick when I was 15 (wow 17 years ago). And I'm the only one of my friends that didnt destroy their car in high school, either by an accident or just total abuse. Its definitely better than just getting some cheap Civic that will just be beat up and thrown away in a matter of years. And with $7000 to spend you can get a real nice one. I started with a $50 car and alot of work and elbow grease.

My first car was a 1969 Cadillac Sedan de Ville. I should have kept it. What a piece of work. Had all kinds of toys in it for 1969. Even had climate control.

However my 2nd,3rd,4th and 5th cars were Mavericks. (y) The 5th was stripped to a shell as my first project car. Number 2,3 and 4 ended up as donors in one way or another.

My current Mav has the Hurst shifter from my 5th Mav(1st project). I managed to hang onto it for 17 years or so along with the cluster, headers and stall converter from the old girl. Everything else got parted out.

i voted yes and still own it . but really my first car was a daihatsu charade with a 1.0 3cyl!!! super fun i only had it for 2 months till i bent a valve and was unable to find parts for it. but then i got my mav. a guy gave it to my uncle bc he owed him money for a job i did at his shop so he gave it to me. he described it to me as the older equivalent to an escort! the guy who had it drove it till he burst a brake hose the proceded to use it as a dumpster in his frt yard. it was full to the tops of the head rests with everything from a 200 ft roll of copper wire...$$$$$ all the way to dirty diapers and streaked grown man drawers!!!

    1971 Comet GT (clone)
I voted Yes because the first new car I ever owned was a 71 Comet GT, 302, 3 speed. I paid $2,711 for it A-plan. I got it while I was in the Air Force. My first car was a 65 Ford Galaxie 4 door but I only owned the car for about 3 months before my mother borrowed my car and got in an accident and it was considered totaled. Then I got my Comet GT and kept it for about 4 years, sold it to a buddy of mine who kept it for a couple of years and then he sold it to another buddy of mine. I lost track of the car about 1978.

The 1971 Comet GT I am restoring will be an exact replica of my first Comet from the exterior. Interior will be custom and mechanically it has a lot more bells and whistles. You can my original car in my Avatar and the current Comet in my signature. I just can't wait to be crusing in the "new" Comet 40 years later. :drive:

Boy you guys are taxing the memory vaults now :rofl2: Maverick was new the year I was car shopping for a road worthy car and I was working on the neighbors farm so I had to look for something a little cheaper. I bought a pair of 51 Merc Monterey's for $300, one black and one white from the husband of my sister's friend. They were garage kept as they belonged to his mom and dad. Both were very low milage and in mint shape. My mother was shopping for a new car and the Ford / Mercury Dealership in Montrose had just taken delivery of a 70 Grabber and a 70 Boss. I talked till I was blue in the face to get her to buy the Boss but lost out to the Maverick. At the time I was looking at being the king of the parking lot at school. The Boss went to another kid in school whose parents bought it for him for his 16th birthday. The Mav, although mom's had the most miles put on it at the control of.........you got it, ME! Then one night after we had all gone to bed someone or one's tried to steal the front end off the car and decided to abandon the idea when my coonhound investigated the noise coming from the driveway. They left so fast that I inherited another tool box full of tools. I spent the next day, Sat. putting the Mav back together using my new found tools. Buy the time mom decided to get another new car in 74 I had come across a real deal on a special order 65 Comet Cliente hardtop. It was Black with cloth bench seat interior, Cyclone option 271 hp 289 w/ BW T10 aluminum case 4 sp. Ordered at Miller Linc/Mercury in Johnson City NY for the son of a Surgeon at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital but was not bought when the father test drove it. A nurse bought it and garaged it after it swapped ends on her. When I bought it in 72 it only had 3,678 miles on it. She practically gave it to me seeing how much I loved it. Plus her seeing my 2 51's and the shape they were kept in probably didn't hurt. The Boss and Maverick were both Vermillion Red with Black Stripes and interiors which Donny, owned Boss and I parked next to each other at school. Thanks for the stroll :drive: in the vault of memories, they were the best of days.

First Car....Light Blue with dark blue interior 73 Comet 250 Six, three on the column ( which I changed to a floor shift as soon as the warranty was up ) stripped version, not even a radio but I talked my Mom into signing a note for me at the bank while still in High School. I remember the payment and the insurance was $100.00 per month combined and when gas went from 29cents to a dollar about overnight it dam near broke me but man I loved that car. My last day of highschool I traded it for a SS 4 Speed Camaro and although it was one hell of a step up I sure wish I would have kept that Comet :)

Man what a memory. Do you really recall how many miles were on a car in 72 or did you have it noted in a diary or something? If ur recall these details you really have pretty gud vault of memories. :hmmm:
