The motor was a 392 with 331 heads and although I have no idea how much HP it made I did have it up to 75 one time....................scared the everlivng x8it out of me. I'm pretty sure with the cavitation plate at the right angle it could have gone faster................maybe............but not with me at the helm.

    V-drive, right?

    Do you actually pull skiers?

We used to ski behind a 455 Olds jet boat back in the late 70s, early 60s. Probably NOTHING like that hemi!

Here is one of the few remaining pictures of our old jet boat. Damaged from Hurricane Alicia in 1983, and the rest of the pictures just floated away.

Also, a side view of previously mentioned tow pole.

Yes it was a V drive, I think it was a Halibrand V drive..............very hard to get parts for.....................but I can't take any credit because I bought it restored.
Used to pull two skiers a lot and actually tried 4 a couple of times but couldn't get everyone syncronized................from the deep water start. Petrified a couple of people by putting them in a tight turn at about 45 or so.........on the outside of the loop they must have been doing over 65............it was a lot of fun.

I agree. I have done 60 on a single person seadoo jetski, and only for a few seconds, because sitting that low to the water...that was scary fast.

My current boat sits higher up and 50 seems slow. Only 190 hp i/o now in a heavy solid fiberglass boat.

A friend of mine had a Baja, with dual 454's...It was scary how fast that boat was..I think the GPS had us around 70mph...I'd rather do 120 on land any day.

A baja is a lot of boat, musta been some stout 454s!

Back when my dad had our jet boat, his Olds was de-tuned to around 250-300 hp, but all kinds of torque. It was still hard on the engine to run at 4000 rpms all the time.
