Well this goes back quite a ways, all new rotors, calipers, rubber lines (including the rear three) and some new metal lines along with a new master cylinder all put on at the same time, brakes were bled and had wonderful brakes, in fact too good! I discovered the Master cylinder push rod was too long and keeping the brakes slightly applied, I unbolted the Master cylinder from the firewall, placed a 1 inch hunk of wood between it and the firewall, reached inside grabbed the brake pedal and pulled to release the pushrod, replaced the pushrod with 1/4 inch shorter one and bolted it all back in (I did not even unhook any brake lines) got in the car and hit the pedal and it goes to the floor, swapped out master cylinder for another (bench bled) vacuume bled the brakes as I did the first time, hit the pedal and to the floor it goes, gravity bled the whole system twice still ,hit the pedal and to the floor it goes, fast forward to yesterday, had help pumping the pedal and bled the whole system again, you can get pressure when it's being pumped, did it all and hit the pedal and to the floor it goes, no leaks I have looked many times, bleeds out great no bubbles, all new and clean fluid throughout, you can pump the pedal up and hold it no problems, let it go then a few seconds later hit it and guess what...to the floor it goes, now I can't figure it out  what do you think 'bout it?

Did you check for a leak at the back of the master cylinder from inside the car (inside the rubber boot)?

I'm certainly not a brake expert, but when you can pump up the pressure the master should have a residual valve that keeps the pressure from bleeding back when you release the pedal to its normal position. It sounds like the master is at fault.

Did you measure the stroke on the old MS or compare it to the new MS before you cut the rod............how did you come up with 1/4" to cut?

When I put 4whl disc's on the Maverick I fab'd an adjustable pushrod which made getting the correct pedal ratio of 7 to 1 attainable.

The new master cylinder I got came with two rods, one was 1/4 inch shorter, I put the longer in first to try and get the pedal height I wanted, it was keeping the pressure on slightly and causing my brake lights to stay on.

I had a similar problem with my GTO. It was a manual disc brake car with the 4 piston calipers so it had a separate proportioning valve and then down the line was the distribution block. I chased the problem for weeks with new master cylinders and even swapped the 4 piston calipers for the later singles. In the end it was the proportioning valve. There was a rubber boot where a button protruded and the seal had failed, not completely mind you as it held fluid but whenever you let off the pedal it allowed air to be sucked into the system. I bypassed that little POS and had a rock solid pedal from there on.

took the rear bumper and splash pan off of curb hoppers comet to prepare for a small bumper swap then took the tail lights out to paint the tail panel.

painting got a little carried away and we ended up painting his rocker panels and the center of his hood all gloss black. Ill get pics up here in the next few days.

looks pretty cool and I must say. were still deciding if were going to put any letters on the hood or if its going to get the stripe treatment. maybe just one huge stripe to continue over the roof and the trunk to follow the lines of the hood,:hmmm:

tomorrow afternoon well start reassembly now that the old rusty maverick bumper cleaned up really nice with some orange cleaner a friend gave us.
another report tomorrow on the prohress

That is what I think it happening to my CJ7 because it uses a GM style proportioning valve, hopefully it fixes my problem :)

I bought a 2006 Nissan Titan V8 for the maverick, fully loaded with tow package, 1 owner 90k miles, very clean no scratches dings, dents, nothing. . Set me back 19k for 3 year/36,000 mile warranty aafter taxes, licensing, dealer fee's, and trading in a BMW that I owed 2500$ more than what it was worth. Very please.

Drove it to work, like everyday. Came out of work to find my right rear tire flat, sheet rock screw stuck in it. Put a plug in it, aired it up, and drove home.
