Today I stripped down most of the 73 Mav parts car so I can send it to Maverick heaven. Boy the dash is a fun one to take out!
I did a bucket test on my 71 Mav build and it Did Not pass, dang! It had water on the front pass floor. The funny thing is that the floor on that side is not a bit rusty. Guess I will pull out the cowl and rebuild it. Dang, dang, dang.

I did buy another car todayat an auction and I will part it out. It is a 70 Montego and appears to have a Cyclone Hood and a Cyclone grill and bumper. It has a 4 speed top loader in it and bucket seats that I may use in the 71 Maverick. The thing had a 200 six in it if anyone can believe that.

Looks too nice to part it out. Can it be saved?

Still you are no doubt running neck and neck at the front of the pack, going to be awesome!!

I can believe a 250, a 200 was last std in the intermediates in 1968...

what's the engine code in the VIN??

It is a "L" so it shows a 250 six cylinder. This engine is a 200 six.

It can be saved but with it originally having a six cylinder, having two tail lights per side instead of the three like a Cyclone does, a previous column shift and not has no gauges in the middle to right side of the dash like the Cyclone did then I think it is a Montego made to look like a Cyclone. The plate on the door is gone and the only other numbers I can find on the car is the VIN. The auction service claimed it was one of about 1600 made that year but I really doubt that. The hood, the 4 spd top loader trans w/ hurst shifter, the grilles, the front bumper and the Ford buckets alone are worth some pretty good bucks. I would put the whole car on eBay but doubt it would get enough bids to make it worth what I would get parting it.
Here is the VIN # 0Ho1L563509

At the very least you will have to loosen all of the flange bolts ane spread the headers apart....I'm pretty sure that you will HAVE to remove at least one header completely.

A 200 in front of a top loader, that's one for the books... AFAIK the last prior 4 speed and 6 cyl was the '66 stang that used the weak kneed Dagenham box... Assuming it was orig 250 & three on the tree the 1600 number could be believable, most of the base Montego's likely were sportin' the optional 302 & automatic...

0H01 decodes as the base Montego, built at Lorain OH as were all Mercury intermediates...

I feel like a 10 year old compared to the rest of you on this forum. You all know so much about everything mechanics and such. The biggest mechanical endeavour I've done is changed the head gaskets on my Chevy Blazer, haha.

Replaced the battery today. The old Autozone yellow top lasted for 7yrs, which is what it was warranted for. Hope the AGM batteries are as good as they are supposed to be.

I think you would find that the car, even with the shape it is in.....is worth more than a comparable Maverick. Those cars have a real good following of people with deep pockets who are not afraid to spend money on a car. I would encourage you to sell it complete.

Removed front shocks to allow front end to bounce a bit, still isn't settling, looks like I'll have to operate...
