    On a hunch, bought a replacement electronic module for the dist, turned out that was the culprit. Gonna set the timing with vac gauge tomorrow morning and hopefully be back in business.

    Spent all day wiring and installing 130 amp 3g alternator. Works like a charm.

    Gave the motor my car came with a compression test. About 150 plus all around. Havent heard it run yet, but am very close to filling the carb and lighting it! WP_20160527_20_28_28_Pro.jpg

    Ripped out the old carpet to vaccuum everything, floors are pretty solid ... no rot through :), cleaned rear seat arm rest panels :) they're like new, pulled off factory door panel & making aluminum panels for them. Preparing to take off the dash pad and give it a Lot of TLC to see if I can save it so it can look nice again too :hmmm:

    I couldn't wait until tomorrow. I dialed in the timing using the vacuum gauge and she's running perfectly. So, that ends this chapter, which included:

    - New radiator
    - Electric rad fan
    - Coolant flush
    - New thermostat
    - New radiator hoses
    - New 150a alternator
    - New drive belts
    - New dist cap
    - New rotor
    - New spark plugs
    - Pertronix Ignitor II
    - Pertronix Flamethrower II coil
    - Pertronix stock-look spark plug wires
    - New a/c vacuum switch

    The radiator was the catalyst for pretty much everything else. The old one sprung a couple pinhole leaks, so it was a "well while I'm here I might as well replace x/y/z." Glad I put in the time to do so, and do it right.

    I wish more people understood that a vacuum gauge tells the truest story of what the motor likes for initial and early portions of the mechanical advance curve. There would be far fewer guys complaining of fuel efficiency and cooling issues around the entire world.

    Hopefully you used a timing light to keep the total timing lead number within reason(40° or slightly less depending on the heads and cam) when tuning with a vac gauge at idle/high idle speeds or you will end up way too high on the total number without recurving the distributor for the now needed shorter mechanical advance stroke. Always have to rob Peter to pay Paul when it comes to ignition curves.

    Spent a bit over an hour with a needle scaler blowing off the undercoating. That tool makes it go quick but sure makes a mess!

    Spent the last three days ripping it apart and putting it back together. I have been having issues with my EFI tune. Idles like crap.

    1. Replaced the speedometer cable and added the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor)
    2. Wired the VSS to the computer.
    3. Wired the neutral/park switch to the computer.
    4. Added a wideband AF sensor.
    5. Wired the wideband output to pin 27 (EGR) to monitor the AF on the data logging software, Binary Editor.
    6. Replaced the POS SCT chip with a Moates Quarterhorse chip.
    7. Replaced the SCT BA 2600 MAF with Ford Lightning MAF.
    8. Started data logging. (Took me a while to figure this out)

    Now, I'm waiting for analysis and updates from my tuner before I do the next steps of data logging. I'm hoping this cures my ills.

    Cussed out the upholsterer, he's 6 months behind getting the headliner and orange vinyl halo top on, cussed out the graphics guy, he's a month late installing the grabber graphics, cussed out myself for starting this project 5 years ago, listened to my buddy tell me how cool and rare this car is....☺

    Found the answer to undercoating removal, floor adhesive remover! Works great but eats everything and burns right through nitrile gloves. Going to move the car outside so I have water available to neutralize it all when I'm done. Goodbye elbow grease, hello chemical burns!
