    Why would you section that lever? What is the benefit?

    I put a 16" steering wheel on and the leaver was too long for my comfort. this wheel had a 1" shallower dish than the one I had before. I would hit the knob on the lever with my knuckles.

    Hi Frank:
    Just noticed this post . I had the same problem when we changed OUR steering wheels on Five Cars.. NPD sells a ' Shorter ' Directional stem ( Same Design , Threaded ends , and Chromed of course ) we've installed these on the cars. I'll try to locate the part number if you're interested. Anyway .. I know it's aggravating when your fingers smack the lever .. : (

    thanks Chip,
    I saw a couple on the net, that's where I got the measurement from. I now have one that the stem is black with a chrome knob...it matches the black spoke wheel.

    took the Mav for a 50 mile...:drive::chirp:
    when I got home Effie wanted to try out the new power steering. She drove about 40 miles. while we were out on one road the Police had the road blocked so She had to turn around. She made a U turn and when She took off She :chirp: a second, then tried to tell me She didn't do it on purpose...:thumbs2:
    found out later that the road was blocked because they had found a body in the ditch from a hit and run.

    Installed a Sport Steering wheel purchased from Craig Selvey, had some light surface rust on spokes that I sanded down a little. Horn button from Phillip Schmidt - Mustang II guy. Leather is functional but not great, sending it off for re-wrap by Rusty (mercgt73) after Christmas.

    Thanks. Yeah, purchased one off eBay first without much education. Ended up being a vinyl non-horn version. Craig had a restorable leather sport grip model that I was fortunate to pick up.

    It would still work, you just wouldn't have a horn. I was running a non horn wheel for awhile until I found a gentleman who had a few of the steering wheels. Did a bit of trading and cash for two of them! Both of them ended up being super nice.
