Common sensor failure, computer thinks engine is cold even though it could be overheated(not likely). Though this condition could prevent fan from activating causing, yep, overheating.

Sensor went out on my F-150 and it'd flood when hot, had to hold it on floor(dechoke mode) to get it to start. Computer thought temp was -30*F.

the temp gauge reads cooler than normal. I had replaced a leaky T-stat housing and the T-stat came with it. maybe it was the wrong temp T-stat...they come in 170/180/192/195 Degrees. I will see if I can find the box and see what temp this one is...thanks

The temp gauge SENDER and temp SENSOR for computer are generally two totally different parts(at least for most vehicles). If temp gauge reads approx normal and makes good heat, there's nothing wrong with thermostat.

Temp gauge on truck was in middle of normal, still computer thought the temp was -30F.

You may want to search net to see if 8* makes a difference, I'm betting it doesn't.

Change it and see, but rarely does a stat open exactly at it's rated temp.

In very cold climates engines rarely warm completely to stat ratings.

Drove it around a bit. Ran fine, but the fan still pulls a lot of volts. Still checking!

What does pull a lot of volts mean?
