First good drive of the car since back from the transmission shop. The rebuild C4 shifts significantly better than the sloppy job it did before. They put in a shift kit (we do it in all our C4s, they said). And it works well. Under light acceleration, it holds second up to about 30 mph. The third-second kickdown is nice and crisp. A couple of unidentified drivetrain noises went away. And ALL THE LEAKS STOPPED!! The builder, Pro Built Transmissions, of West Sacramento, used low viscosity fluid fluid, which seems to working fine (this was a full-tear-down and a dry fill, so no mixing with Type-F). They did the U-joints at the same time. Slowly, this car is coming together.

I installed not one, not two, that's right three!!!!! Starter solenoids.

Started out no crank, engine spun & started by jumping solenoid, yep croaked. Installed new, still won't crank. Yep, dead. Tested next one, operates fine(looks to be lightly used), installed, no crank. Tested again, tits up. Dayum!! By this time, only one on hand was the orig removed from Cobra approx three years ago(mainly cuz it was showing it's age, still electrically fine). Tested, checked out OK, installed. Cranks fine.

Drove it 75 miles round trip to Smithfield, met friends & we ate outside... No issues. First time it's been out of neighborhood since last fall.

Uhh well no, I had all on hand, including the NOS installed on Cobra three years ago.

The "looked new" was in a box of parts that came with a 428 Fairlane-500 bought probably 20 years ago.

Okay fellas, i,ve been doing lots of reading and youtubing on cutting, buffing and polishing paint. Already started with my trunk.

Just as painting this is new territory! Let me say!!!! How freakin nerve racking it is to seemingly wreck a decent paint job.

    Thought I screwed up royally!

But after right tools, products, and being a little more agressive I'm seeing results.

Let me say! I,ll never complain about any shop or business charging me fair labor for Body work, paint and detailing if I choose to go that route. Definitely a skillset and labor intensive. Those men earned what they make!

    Disagree or not

I havent done it yet either. And like everything else, always a learning curve. You did well starting in the back. And yes, even though it would be money well spent, I am sure when I get there at some point I will be burning the paint off a few corners if I dont sand through first.

None of it is easy. I farm out very little work on my vehicles, only the things I don’t have tools for like AC recharging and front end alignments.
And you can trust me when I say I do it ALL, here’s a picture of my current project that I’m neck deep in. Hope to have it running this weekend.

Fix the overheating issue, the rest will buff out.....

    Maybe not...

I've done A/C work since the '60s & for last few years my own alignments, I would not tackle that Ranger.

Don’t get me wrong, if the AC just needs a can of freon to make it cold again is no big deal but this Ranger will need the system vacuumed to insure there’s no moisture in it and I don’t have a machine for that.
After doing suspension work I do a home alignment and the shop usually tells me it was really close.
As for the Ranger, nothing to it but to do it.(y)

The smog equipment was removed from this car before I got it. Started cleaning up the engine bay. Also modified the carb adapter plate removing the egr port.
