Alright well i have a "built" 302 well thats what i was told and the mechanic that built it says it needs a stall. I got this motor that is an 88 model motor. And if the deal doesnt fall through with raymond for a nine inch rearend. What kind of transmission stall driveshaft and fly wheel will i need?
But arent the C4s different from like the 70s to the 80s? Or just need to change fly wheels? Arent there different length stalls for different years?
Rearend is gonna be a 9 inch with posi and 3.55 gears if it all works out. Street. Maybe 1 time strip just to see what it will run.
Something about the spindels are different, i think they went from 24 to 26. I would just get a maverick trans, go to the parts store, and tell them what you want... a high stall converter for that mav or comet. Use the standard bell housing from the mavericks and everything will bolt up. When you get into the 80s , its going to get confusing due to the flywheel and converter size changes. I know this because i lived through it for 2 weeks trying to figure crap out. You CAN infact get the 80s trans to work but it helps to know the model of the car/truck. 164 tooth flex and 11.5? inch converter will fit with that year bellhousing.
Im trying to get the guys number that built the motor he had an AOD with flywheel and a stall. Back when i used to be real cheap i thought $350 was alot but now it seems cheap.
I wouldnt go more than a 2800 stall converter on a street car (your going to need a large by huge trans cooler too)You can go with an aluminum drive shaft for a fox mustang.Afresh C-4 with a good shift kit will do you just fine with the 3:55s'...
C4 s are the same with the only difference being if it fill through the transmission pan or through the transmission case, the bell housings are different fort both of these. There are three types of bell housings, one is a 157 tooth bell housing, one is a 164 tooth (big bell housing) and the other is a bell housing for a pan fill transmission. More than likely you will have a 157 tooth bell housing. For this and the motor you have you will need a 50 ounce 157 tooth flywheel. As for the torque convertor you will need that is a little harder to tell you as it all depends on quite a few things, horsepower, cam, gears in rear end, weight of car, carb, intake, exhaust. For a mildly built 302 a 2,500 would be a good starting point I would think. Driveline should work just fine from a v8 car and should fit in tranny and be the right length as well, might have to change rear u joint to fit 9" rearend though, as recently discussed there are differences in widths and cap sizes but easy to tell if you fit it in and look for free play
yes you are going to have to get a different u-joint and the gears will be 3.50 and yes this is a done deal . just have to wait on the center section to get re-built
