the plan is to just stick this back up in there and spot weld it, not gonna be easy since the edges don't line up so well but I'll just have to hammer it and get it in there . . .

the plan is to do the following to strengthen the area up . . .

    this the passenger side
    [IMG]

use an angle bracket and weld a bar across it, probably a square tube, nice and thick . . .

and have another bracket that will bolt between the removable bracket of the shock and the frame

just for mockup, gonna try to use either one inch square tubing or I might try rectangular tubing. if I use rectangular I might be able to notch them at the ends to act as tabs which I can then weld to the frame.

Cut the threads off the gas pipe, they are tapered, making the end you will weld very thin compared to the other side.

Im pretty sure you have a bad nest of grimlins hiding in the differential causing all the noises.

OMG...this was the most painful annoying frustrating and slow process ....I had to put little tiny welds down and they looked like boogers as the UPS man pointed out...
So I turned down the heat and turned down the speed which made a huge difference....

Well, yes they still look like boogers but boogers with more penetration!

I did some practice welds on this old dash grill that I had laying around. Practiced closing those gaps. You can see on some of the welds I had too much heat, too little speed or moved the MIG head too quickly.

I think that plate may be galvanized or something. I tried welding on one of them a few years ago and it welded like crap!

Yes that shock mount steel is galvanized. I put some bird s!#t welds on the sprints broken shock mount last summer. Looks ugly but as long as the penetration is good it will be fine Mo...Remember...A grinder is a welders best freind.

Ok so grind more next time right? I'm assuming that would remove the galvanized coating. May not affect my welds but I'm sure my lungs and nostrils will appreciate it.
