First of all, :Welcome: . Back in 1976, dad came into the house and announced that we were going to "SAVE GAS". In the newspaper was a 1974 four-door with 18,000 miles, 200 cid six, power steering, and AM radio, bright yellow with a brown vinyl top. The guy wanted $2,000.00. Well, then mom got a 1977 4-door with the Luxury Decor Option and a 250 cid six. Then I turned 16 and bought a 1974 2-door with ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! It had a 200 cid six with a three-speed on the floor with a bench seat. Drove the car for six years until 1984. Then dad got rid of the yellow car and bought a 1977 Mercury Comet with the LDO option. Drove that one until 1990.

I've done just about anything to a Maverick. Changed transmissions, engines, etc. This, all before we had this website. Now that we have it, there is a wealth of information, all you need to do is ask!

My kids saw pictures of my 1974 2-door and asked what driving a car like that was like. I said, "Why don't we just buy one and find out!" So, that is what we ended up doing! Now, I own a 1972 in my signature. I want to show my kids it doesn't matter what you drive, it is your attitude toward life that counts. They are finding that out. ( I did buy my son a 2005 Mustang, he still appreciates Mavericks, though.)

As with any car you buy, new or old, check it out and ask questions like you are doing. Mavericks have their quirks just like any other car. It will be hard to find a rust-free example, unless a little old lady passes on and the estate sells the car. (And then you get into dealing with the person who overpaid the estate and wants you to overpay; don't do it. Walk away. There are too many cars out there)

Why do I like them? They are different than Mustangs, Chevelles, etc. My best friend has a Chevelle, and has made fun of Mavericks since I was in high school. I'd hate to embarass him with my 1972 4-door. Like has been said, once you get started you are hooked. They are cheap, light, parts are plentiful and they are easy to repair.

Mavericks, like their owners, are a humble lot. You won't fine any nicer people on any other website. ( Believe me, if you don't think so, just go to some diesel truck website. You'll meet some real rear-ends.)

    Good luck! Craig.
