I guess you're right, it's probably some dealer options. I'd say that's pretty rare.

What about the factory leather wrapped steering wheel? my 74 has an Orange leather wrapped wheel (I'd like to find any orange wheel to replace it)

uhh I dont know if this even qualifies here. I still have the original jack usage sticker on the inside of the trunk lid. It evens has a drawing of a mav in it. Also another sticker talking about Ford and safety, something like that. Is this rare?

agreed... both of my 71 Comets have this!

one of them even has an "P" that I am guessing is an inspection sticket on the underside of the trunk lid!

One of the reasons I bought the Maverick I currently own is for the fact it was a special order car with a lot of different options: Heavy duty suspension, cool ray glass, exterior decor group, am/fm 4 speaker stereo, V8 (which mandated front disc brakes), 3 speed with floor shift, rear window defroster, tooled corinthian leather look vinyl seats, and important non-selected options: no power steering, no A/C, no driver convenience group (includes day/night mirror, cigarette lighter and rear seat ashtrays) no ski rack (don't laugh at that, it is own the order sheet that came with my car). So that being said, has anyone seen one of these so called ski racks??? That has got to be a rare option!!

This is really a cool thread. I came back to the site to catch up some. 'Been a long time since I've commented but I am making progress on my Comet so I thought I would check in. The piece I'm looking for that has eluded me is the splash pan that fits behind the front bumper. Mine is messed up a little bit and needs replacing. That would be for a '71 if anyone has one. Another rare item in a Mav/Comet, I transplanted in mine, is an Austrailian six banger. It was OE in something. Only rare here in the US but a dime a dozen in Aussie land. Only rare in a Comet cause they didn't come that way. I guess that doesn't count. It does run extremely well and has a sound all it's own.

As for progress, I have the car in primer, all the lights and stuff are off the car. Just put on the new vinyl top, had the bumpers rechromed and ready for mounting. Recently mounted the floor shifter and rear spoiler. I'm really getting pumped up as the car is getting close. Sticker shock on buying the new paint, Ouch! Just waiting for a little nicer weather to put on the color. While I knew getting a car really straight took time I never really knew how long as I have countless hours of cleaning, rubbing, sanding, priming, rubbing, sanding. It goes on and on and you never get completely happy with the block sanding process. It's pretty much ready now though. The new vinyl top really looks cool. Even with the car in primer it gave the car a new look to it. It's crying for the new yellow paint and GT striping. Anyway, there's the progress, I'm way off topic so see ya later,
    Dave

    Rarest OE part

A grabber hood is not the rarest OE part, my NOS grabber hood is.
