Those weren't factory, they were aftermarket pieces sold by JC Whitney back in the 70's.

Yup, the picture I took was on the front page of Shorthorns, a few years back.

    Options

Back in 1988 I went to a local salvage yard for a starter
when I found a 1974 4dr Mav. with the factory rear window
defogger complete. If I remember correctly, I got it for $10.
I put it into my 71 4dr, where it still resides to this day.
Later that same year I went to a swap meet in Ft. Worth
where I found a complete NOS rear defogger in the box
(which I still have not installed) and paid $25 for it. As
far as rare options, has anybody seen a 69.5 with the
    semi-automatic (C4s) transmission? I know I never have!
It's in the shop manual supplement for the Maverick (that
was used with the regular 69 shop manuals). Also in the
03/69 and 08/69 sales brochures. A couple of years later
I bought (from Green Sales for $50) a NOS dealer installed
remote electric trunk lid release. It's in my 73 2dr Mav. Works
great. I have owned up to 15 Mav's and Comets as well as
cataloged dozens more in junk yards and swap meets, and I can
tell you that here where I live, I have only seen one (a green
76 Comet 4dr) back in 1986 that had the factory AM/FM
stereo in it, and have seen only one console in one at a
swap meet back about five years ago. Most of the ones
sold here have 250's with automatics, AM radios, usually AC,
and one of the interior or exterior dress up packages, and that's
all you see here (at least from 1984 when I got into them).
Most other options are rare. I do have a 75 Comet 4dr that is
all basic except it does have AC (with three speed column shift).
I would imagine that would be pretty rare as most dealers
    ordered them with more options.

Almost all the Mavericks I've had had rear defoggers, they must be lot more common in Canada.

A couple states required that all cars sold there had to have rear defoggers. One was New York. Considering the climate, I could understand why alot of Canadian Mavericks had rear defoggers. I only ran across a very few here in West Virginia. And only saw one 76 Stallion that had a factory AM/FM/8-track, never any others with that option.

My 73 Comet has these ridiculous HUGE bumpers with really big guards on them.
