The mav is gone but i'm still here!
Mine had a 302(5.0L) originally, but I'm thinking about downgrading it to a 4.6L :D

Doubling the cams, thinking about quadrupling the cams. But the shock towers wont allow it!

Im not sure. I do know it's a V8, and assume it's a 302. I bought the car w/ the engine and don't know if it's the original block. It was slightly modified and runs well, so I left it at that.

Yeah, your poll question isn't clear. I've had 4 different engine sizes in mine over the years.

'71 Maverick has a 200. Appears to be the original engine but haven't determined that yet for sure. However, the original was a 200 so...

Not too many 289s here I see. I would have thought they would be popular ... maybe a little better mileage but still a bit of kick. Course I'm no engine guy by any stretch of the imagination. Are the 289s hard to come by or hard to deal with?

years ago, back in the early 80's the 289 was a popular swap in my area however they got more scarce as people started restoring the Mustangs. The 302 was a factory option in the Maverick so people kind of stuck with them once the aftermarket parts got on the market to make them run faster.

I know at one point there were quite a few Maverick's in my area running the 289 hi-po engines. They were supposed to be putting out somewhere in the area of 275 HP, stock and with a little tweakign people were getting into the 300 hp range. It was harder to get that many ponies out of a 302 back then.
