I'll answer the poll question specifically to the generally confusing way it was worded....

I haven't, am not now or will be running the original engine in my Maverick.

I'll will be running a mildly built 302

Which definition of "original" did you mean?...

"Original", as in the motor the car came with from the factory?....No.

"Original" as in a "unique, one of a kind" engine?.....No, there were millions of 302's made.

Were you referring specifically to Mavericks, or just any Ford?

Mavericks never came "originally" equipped with 351's, 390's or 428's

But a factory 428 Maverick would sure as hell be "one of a kind" original LOL

Mine is just a little 302 with compression bumped a bit and a 278 .498 cam. Who knows what will be in it later. FYI, in phx craigslist I saw a cool a$$ maverick claims to be running high 9's for 3500. You guys might want to give it a look. 351 stroked

I think the smallest engine put in Maverick/Comets were the 170's

but I have to assume the poll isn't specifically referring to Mavericks and Comets, since, they never came "original" with 260's, 289's 351's 390's and 428's either, and since a couple of those engines went out of production before the Maverick was ever made

Thus adding to the confusion from the wording of this poll.

Could someone answer a quick stupid question here. When we pulled the motor out of my 73 Comet and tore it down we noticed the block says "Mexico" on it. I know this was "common" or I have been told so at least.

Is there anything special about the "Mexican" block from a Hi-Po stand point? Should I find another block to build up or is it still going to be safe to make a 347 with about a 150 shot on a plate and a fogger system set up for going down the track?

    Thanks,
    Bobo

Nice, very nice. I believe the mexican block is def the way to go. Much better block. I think it has a more nickel in it making it much stronger. I'd love to have a mexican block for my next engine:thumbs2:

Actually it doesn't have more nickel content but it does have beefier main caps.
