It seems that both of your other 2 beautiful Mavs have there own unique aspect and I suspect that the vinyl top will be the thing that makes your white one unique. With the wheels and stance it has now, it will look awesome either way.

I have been debating about mine too. I have a white 71 Grabber that came with a red vinyl top. It had the black and red Grabber stripes, which probably looked pretty groovy at the time with the top. I planned on painting it and putting the stripes on and then later maybe adding the top. I think my car is relatively rare w/ 302 3 spd and it would be really unique with the original "bling" red vinyl top. Anyhow, it is easier to add the top then remove it.

If it had it when new, I'd say keep it. Although, the Maverick has nice simple lines without the vinyl top or molding.

Bottom line - it's your car and your choice and either way looks nice. (y)

i guess it goes with the saying if it ain't broke don't fix it. well i guess this just reasures my thoughts and reasonings. 70's it is... well guess i'm gonna have to find some bell bottoms and platform shoes and some slik wide collar shirts to where with it! :D Craig can you lend me your wig!

actually for some reason the car looks more yellow now.. i don't know.. yellow green, green yellow.. i just tell people its that crayon color. but anyhow that thing is done.. well for now.. and it does run! and runs good, slow! but good!at that.. i'm supprised. i've already had 3 people offer to buy it already!

it all comes down to weather you want to posably find rust under the top or not.But for me I was born in the 70's but that does not mean I want to revisit them.

    both good points...

the car is a california car and was garaged most of the time.. but there could be moisture under it!

anyone delt with this problem before? paint a car first them redo the vinyl.. then find out there is rust under it. what did you do?

as far as the 70's i think my gonna buy a van too with moon crested windows.

Leave it on. Since you have 17's & 18's. And I have 17's on 8 & 9 wide on 225/45 and 255/45. Let try something extreme:18x8 & 20x9 P.S. Thanks for the tire options. I have got to take some pics. I lowered the car 2 or 2.5 inches. the 225/45 was the most I could do.

I'm in your footsteps. The only reason I didn't go bigger is because I truely wanted chrome instead of billet. And the mustang rim in 18's was a 9. I knew that was not going to work. Next project 69 charger will be 18x9 &20x10 or 20x11. Wait till you see the gauges in the comet.

Stefan might be onto something here. Cutting edge yet retro.(y) just glue the carbon fiber down and clear coat over it until smooth.

Remove the vinyl top then paint the car, then replace the vinyl top. This was the route I took (my vinyl was rotted and my roof was rusted). This gives you a chance to see whats going on now and have a completely painted car under the vinyl. Ford did a pretty crappy job painting my roof. I think I only paid $100 to have the vinyl replaced with matching material. I really like the Halo style tops!
