Hello all, with my giant resto going on, the biggest internal debate I have is with the drivetrain, efi or carb'd.

Since the maverick is being stripped to the shell, now would be an ideal time for an efi conversion.

I had the pleasure of meeting MAVDOG, and seeing his beautiful efi red maverick at the fff this year, and had a good chat with him.

See, I've been into 5.0 stangs forever, and am a big fan of efi 5.0's. On the other hand, I'm almost burnt out on them, and the sound of a carburator "almost" sounds appealing.

On the other hand, I would like the modern convienance, stability, and reliability of a turn key efi powerplant in a 34 year old vehicle.

on the other hand, there is nothing cooler than an old car fixed up with a fat carb'd.

what to do?? opinions? conversion parts for me would be nearly free because I'm into 5.0 stangs, so cost of conversion is not a matter.

    It's a personal preference I believe.

    My preference is EFI.

damn, you aren't helping the carb'd choice. It's looking like I may have to start my homework. Luckily mavdog 71 is just a jump down the freeway.

transmission choice is something i've been thinking about for a while. in a perfect world, it would be a t5. However, my mother, whom is helping with the resto, doesn't want a manual, so i'll keep it auto. I'd really prefer to go with an aod, which I can get pretty much free if I want one, However, stock aod's suck balls, and are powersapping beasts. a stock aod over a t5 in a mustang is literally a full second slower in the quarter.

for this reason, I think I'll retain the c4 that currently rides in the car now. If I had the extra cash to blow, I'd grab an aod and re inforce it with a solid input shaft, good torque converter, manual valvebody, and a shiftkit. Or get a lentech. However, for practically purposes, I may have to retain that mod for the future....so...a c4

yes! but no need for enclosed blower anymore... just streight blow though!

i love efi its way cool! but IMO carb is way cheaper! $ vs $

yes you can get stuff used but you can also get carb sutff used too ;) its all about money...

rick will be giving me his set up when hes sick of it and going back to a carb! :D

I'm old fashioned, carb. Or get one of the duel intakes and put on 2 carbs! Two fours would be overkill for a street car, but sure would look good! Just make sure and get a low rise, a tunnel ram is a dog on the street.

I say go with the EFI, but don't do a windsor short deck if you're getting burnt out on them. A fuel injected FE would be pretty cool. It could be an EFIFE!!

I seem to recall that the budget was unlmited on this babe, so may as well do the EFIFE (I couldn't help but think of Barny when I saw the EFIFE :D )

Jeremy, you already have the manifold to go carb. I say you get it done, then work on efi....it dosent have to be all apart to make the conversion....Ya know, get the bugs out first.:2cents:

It's easier to run all of the HP lines while everything is apart though. Now is also the time to decide if you want to run an in tank or external fuel pump. These are the guys I'm going to buy my pump kit from. http://www.tanksinc.com/ Most people just end up running and external pump and put up with the noise and the reduced reliability because it's just their weekend or cruise-in car. I'm going to be doing some commuting and going on road trips, so that's why I'm doing the in tank. These guys show a good "how to" http://www.thedetailzone.com/Tanks%20Fuel%20Pump%20Install.htm
