You have a 3000 pound car with 302 running with a 303 cam and 4.11 gears.... Optimal converter on the track would be one that gave maxium stall 250 - 500 rpm before peak torque or about 2800 - 3000 rpm stall. You have way too much carb but since it is an Edelbrock it may work on the strip. If you have traction problems you may need bigger tires (slicks). I also recommend that you talk to the converter maker and have all the data on your car handy so you can answer their questions. You could give Jay at Broader Performance a call (before noon central time) and talk to him about your converter. His are top notch and he will build it to suit your needs. He also gives a discount for the members of this board so take advantage of it.
thanks paul i was thinking the same thing about a 3000 stall guess i was thinking right.and the edelbrock doesnt miss a lick on the track but i am looking for a good used 600 edelbrock to see what it does. thanks for the advise john p.s. check out my video on the drag racing section and you will see what i mean about it running good at the track.
I would go with a 600 holley dp for a car that sees a good bit of track time. I have heard of people picking up 1/10 of a second on their et by going to the same size carb but a double pumper
that is what i run and it is awsome. ive had this carb on several motors and cars and its the best carb ive ever worked with.
. i have run the acc boss hogg converters before also and they do a good job. i have one in my maverick right now its a 2800 to 3200. am happy with it . i just bought a rev maxx 4500 for my 351 powered mustang . i havent ran it yet but will soon. will let ya know how it works.
you will love that rev maxx conv. ,they sponcer our maverick ,we love it even better than the coan unit i had before ....
No offense intended but you just about have to say that since they sponsor you........ I have only used coan and so far so good...... I am sure rev maxx builds good stuff though..... :Handshake
i have a coan trans in my car , and love it , if i felt they werent as good, i would have stayed with coan conv., but i like the 91/2 inch better than the 8 inch, i 60 ft 2 hundredths better and trans runs 20 deg. cooler, and it cost 1/3 the price of the coan unit,i still have the coan 8 inch here , id never go back to it unless i hurt the rev maxx 1....coan is a top notch company, i live close to them know alot of people working there , in fact the guy you talk to on the phone when you order is Art Reed, who is a great friend of mine ....but still i like the rev maxx better....., do you got a 8 inch in yours ,we drive on the street alot , those 8 inch conv. hate the street
Art was a way cool guy to deal with!!!!! 3 trans and converters sold here in the nasti nati 2 mavs 1 cougar I bet he remembers
yea hes a good guy and knows his stuff, i race with him every sat at bunkerhill , well my son races now, i help and take up space lol....
I build converters. Shoot me some info and I will quote you a price and what I think you need. Anything from street cars to about the 5.20 1/8 mile range.
