If the guy was really smart, he would figure that there is another market for his parts, alot of parts will interchange, but they can be from any year Mustang. I've bought a few things from NPD, and last time I was there he said there are more and more Maverick guys buying stuff from them out of their Mustang catalog. On another note, I'd teel the guy to pi$$ off, he wants to buy your part, prob for cheap, triple the cost and sell it to the other guy, but he has no time to help you after he found out it was for a Maverick?? shop somewhere else.
Well,I gotta side with Jamie and some of the others,if the owners an inconsiderate idiot who looks down on my car ,then I guess my money would be spent elsewhere.
Yeah, I guess I will take the pulley off, and drive back into Houston and get my money back, and lose the 25% restocking fee...NOT!!! Man, I haven't said "NOT!" in years...
Parts countermen can tell you all the vehicles any given part will fit. Other than that you can get a "Parts Interchange book" that tells you the same thing and adds to it those parts that can be made to work on applications. The wrecking yards used to use them before they started using computers. I am sure you could snag an older book somewhere.
Scott....you do realize that John is a first class, grade-A, restaurant quality jackass, don't you? On top of being an idiot. Next time you see him ask him about the psychopath that chased him around with a Boss 302 cylinder head at the Autorama about eight years ago.
Tell you a little story. Several years ago, I took a cleveland to a well know engine builder, his shop is located outside the drag strip. One year later, (I gave him too much money in advance and thats my fault (another story)) 14 lies, caught him in all the LIES, engine was suppose to be together except for intake and valve adjustment, I wanted to see engine and had to "sneek up on him to find it" I find out much of machining was not done and all parts were not ordered! I lost app $4,000 on this ordeal! Suffered my lost, loaded up engine in a basket, an left! He did offer to finish the engine at no cost to me and I would recover my loss! Could not trust him at this point and I would have no more dealings here! Finnally did get another guy who was stiffed by this guy and helped me out on this project. If I am up at the track late Saturday night, in the final round, and my car breaks needing a 50 cent part, NO WAY will I go to him and get the part! I will lose the $800-$1,000 purse! Now your guy might be honest where as mine is not, but this guy has a attitude that goes with your guy and other racers will back me on this. I just could not stand to see this guy up at the fancy diner, giving the waitress a hard smart fitting time, leaving no or little tip and he pays for his meal with my MONEY! Even if you dont deal with him, he is spending your MONEY! I will walk many miles to get what I need, I need the right part and customer service to match! Everybody gets together on this and the problem will get solved!
Shadow. Who IS reputable and pleasant in this town? I am not too fond of the one in Seabrook (used to be in Clear Lake but just moved). He was nice the last visit, but i was desperate, and got a major attitude from him my first visit. (2nd visit, he looks at me and says "I have seen you around, what can i do for you?" in friendly tone of voice, not remembering that our first visit was a "Can i take a look at that B&M shifter", "sure", and as i begin to open the box to see how the grip feels he starts to cuss at me and tell me I cannot open it. I said "I don't want to buy something I cannot get a feel for, and there is a 90% chance I will buy this if it feels right..." and a couple of other words were exchanged, nothing too offensive, and i walk out leaving the open box on top of some headers). I tend to get along with almost everyone, but seem to have bad luck with speed shop dealers. I do FINE with JEGS and Summit...I can visit with them for 10 minutes, ask a couple questions, get the right answers, and buy a bunch of stuff. Same thing at Performance down by Hobby, but customer support is bland if you aren't running a big block. At least at performance, he brings out three different Shifters, lets me "play with them" then i toss down a couple hundred and out the door, with the same one I wanted to touch at Clear lake. How is Hot Hedz in Huffman? Anyone else you can think of anywhere in houston area? If I don't mind driving to Johns, I won't mind driving ANYWHERE near Houston...
Honestly....I've never had a problem at Clear Lake Speed (now in Seabrook). You must have caught him on a bad day. Everybody there is "usually" very friendly. Of course.....I've known the man since I was six years old due to my Dad running Modified Production against him. Your best bet is Texas Performance near Hobby. Granted, sometimes you can get a real weiner behind the counter but if you find one particular guy that will help you and has a decent attitude then you need to keep asking for him. They have a "bonus" system based on sales and it's pretty good motivation for them. The biggest thing to remember is that not all of them are real live experienced racers. It's really a warehouse. You know.....got a part number? Here's a price. If you need help with selection then by all means give me a call. The majority of those guys are also bowtie oriented. Never heard of Hot Hedz. Where in Huffman are they located? I can always drive up there since they're close and let you know how they are. If you have to go back to John's then I'd recommend talking to the hired help instead of Captain Insano.
Hot Headz or Hedz was on 1960 at the intersection just before you get to the big bridge over Lake Houston, on the Huffman side. There was a diary queen, then an entrance to a neighborhood, the a gas station in the same parking lot. They may not be open anymore, it has been years since I was by there. There was also a place in Baytown right off of old 146 before you get to the Hospital. Know if they are still open? They would be a block or 3 off the new loop, heading south toward the transmission guy you know. Again, haven't been there in 10-15 years. may not be open anymore. I have had decent luck with the Hobby place, plus there is the place on the other side of the freeway where Rick Book got dynoed. They deal mostly performance Mustang parts and have a few race cars in their shop (an old maverick out back for sale, also...). Those guys were cool, but most their stuff was order-only. A couple of turbo and blower setups in stock, but mostly for newer mustangs.
I think they're gone. We went through there a couple of times the weekend before Halloween and I didn't see anything like that. That was USA Speed. Closed. Strictly Performance. Great guys. I run by there once a month or so just to keep tabs on them. Greg Flatt, their lead mechanic, is the only person outside of myself and my Dad that I'll let touch my '98 Mustang. If I were in your position I'd stick with Texas Performance. Just keep in mind what you're looking for when you go in there. It helps. Or like I said....just call me.
When it comes to rebuilding my engine, should I stick with those guys in Alvin B&G, or whatever those initials were, or would Strictly Performance be better, or do they even do engine rebuilds? I saw a lot of assembly (installing engines, trannies, rearends, etc), but no engine machining going on...
