Considering plunking down the cash for a brand new T5. A generic V8 5.0 T5 is adequate for my souped up six cylinder Maverick. Both Jegs and Summit as well as lots of others claim to vend " Z / Cobra/ '251' spec " T5's (pocket bearing/2.95 first gear) Jegs sells "Ford Performance" and Summit sells "Ford Racing" and "American Powertrain-Tremec" about same price.

    > Are there really multiple manufacturers/assemblers and maybe differences in the available NIB T5 's? .

The Ford Racing tranny I think has a disclaimer about NO WARRANTY for their " aftermarket race parts", can't find Jegs T5 warranty and AP/Tremec T5 site says : "90-days from TREMEC, extended to 2-years by American Powertrain."

Have a 93 Cobra-Z T5 built from a blown core. A few years and a few dozen 1/4 mile launches later it grinds a little 1st / 2nd and 5/4. (Never had any problem with the NWC T5 from an 84 GT in my '63 wagon also rebuilt. )

    have fun

Tremec bought the T5 line from Borg Warner in the mid-90's. I bought mine new in '96 from a Borg Warner distributor and it came in a Tremec box. $1060 shipped to my door, beat Summit's price at the time by $200. -249 T5Z's are Borg Warner, -251's are Tremec.
