    Afternoon folks,
So i moved the shift lever, replaced the seal on my 73 maverick. Afterwards when i was draining the catch pan of all the tranny fluid that didn't make it on the ground, i found this spring and washer??!! Where do they go, anyone know? Thank you

Ok, i figured out the spring goes next to the filter! I think, pretty sure on that.
Still no idea where that washer goes?

Spring looks like the one under the filter. Should also have a valve that seats against the valve body that the spring holds.

The "washer" doesn't look like anything I've seen in a C4.

Me too. Never seen a washer like that on a c4 and I have rebuilt hundreds of them. If that spring is the one under the filter it should have a little valve that looks like this:

If you can't find the valve you can use a 1/4 inch steel ball.

Ps: The valve goes in first.

I am going to shamelessly hijack this thread with another C4 question. I bought one out of pick&pull that was painted silver and had a tag on the valve body. It worked perfectly for a few hundred miles, then it started leaking, then it developed a 2-3 flare. It still has a very firm 1-2 shift when shifted manually. I thought it was a re-build....and maybe it is, but I dont know how long it sat before I bought it and put it back to use. External leaks are obvious...but is there an internal rubber seal that could fail and would cause a 2-3 flare? It has an A servo, but functioned fine until it didnt.

No seal that I know of. You may try to tighten the front band to see if it helps. If not then it could be many things like a loose direct clutch, or perhaps even a valve body problem.
