I have not seen a aftermarket tach on the hood, I have seen fuel pressure gauge and oil pressure. they look cool. I got a external fuel gauge for mine that I will put on after the paint.

    Has anyone...

...ever installed the '65 Shelby Gauge pod with the tach
    and an additional gauge?

If you know what I am talking about, let me know.

If I had a spare dash pad, I would do it, I don't want
to cut my dashpad to see what it would look like.

They look great in Mustangs and they are reproduced.

IMO, it doesn't really matter where the tach is mounted - as long as it doesn't obstruct the view of other gauges (speedo include).

If you're entertaining drag racing (no one said anything about 'street racing' ;) ), it matters more where you mount the SHIFT LIGHT - not the tach. Mount the separate shift light where it glows within your range of vision looking straight ahead - at the finish line.

Okay, I feel better now. :bananaman

The first pic w/the Autometer gauges and Maverick emblem steering wheel is on my car. The LEDs in the middle are for the turn signals and high beam indicators, and I've got all my other guages in the package tray.

And yeah it's a Mustang II wheel with a Maverick door emblem in it. :p Fits great, the column locks work and everything. :bananaman

I picked option C because I got really sick of my column mounted tach and the new setup is so much cleaner!

Charlie, what is involved in making the speedo and tach fit that way. What size are the gauges? 5"

    What about location D?

I don't know if this would work at all but I plan on looking into the idea of putting my gauges (after I decide which ones I want and buy them) where the Drivers sun visor belongs. Mine is gone and I am not reall intrested in putting one back because I never use the dumb things anyway I wear shades

If there is any real reason that this is a bad idea let me know.

I do not see anything wrong with it.
Just keep it clean. Cover or enclose all your wires.
    Should look pretty neat!

I agree with a out of the way spot if you must have a tach, it depends on how big the tach is on where I would put it, and I too would not drill or cut on the dash of the car to have one, I will only use a shift light (no tach)in mine when done and they can be mounted almost any place in your line of sight to work well... they are bright, too bright at night with out a cover..... best of luck.

You could mount your tach in the ashtray area after removing the ashtray itself if you're not using the ashtray for smoking. I've installed three tachs in this area and it looks o.k. and the tach covers most of the opening. You can bolt the tach to the UPPER area of the opening be reversing the holder which surrounds the tach itself and use a 1/4" bolt and nut . I'll take a picture and send it if you'd like.
