Easily verified, all we have to do is ask a comet owner to post their VIN...I know I was searching for a while to try to figure out the sequence, and all I found was 2 RV's with "0" as the first sequence number.

I'm very surprised there are more Dearborn cars then Wayne cars on the poll, so far. I've seen several Wayne cars in person, but only ever seen 2 Dearborn cars.

So your VIN starts out 3F31F? That's pretty cool, I've never seen a Comet that wasn't built at Kansas City.

There won't be to many from (W) Wayne Assembly Plant as the only built the Maverick in 1974 model year. In '73 they built the LTD/Marquise. In '75 Granada/Monarch production began. I worked 30 years there and I have owned 3 Mavericks. None of them were built at Wayne. Althought I started in 1977, my brother started in 1974. When I ordered my first Grabber in May of '74 I got permission to enter the Plant with my Brother for one day so I could see the Mavericks come off the line. It was a thrill!! There were new Mavericks, Comets everywhere you looked. At the time I lived in Detroit with my parents, I was only 17. We thought for sure my car would be built at Wayne, it was not, it was built in Canada! There was a sticker on the left side door jam that said "Product of Canada" During Maverick/Comet production in 1974, there were two shifts on 10 hours a day and some Saturdays! They couldn't build enough of them!

If Im not mistaken, Mavericks designated with "B" or "X" as the 2nd digit in the VIN shows it was built in Oakville or St. Thomas respectively, with "X" being the more common designation given to Canadian Mavericks.

It would have been cool to go through and see all those Mavericks brand new...I bet no one believed they would be so hard to come by today...lol
