My '72 beater is a K as far as the body shell. Has a W rearend, F motor and trans, X front spindles and suspension. and some other non Maverick, and hell, non FORD plants in there... lol

Can't believe this thread is still going, the results are interesting though. I would have never expected the F cars to outnumber the W cars. Seems like the Wayne cars are more common to see, especially 74's.

The engine would have been built at Windsor(well if 302, don't think they built the 6cyl), trans well I dunno... Once completed they were shipped to the various assembly plants for install...

Well, the engine and trans rolled off the assembly line in an '80 Mercury Capri that was built at Dearborn.

Does raise an interesting question though, I don't think I've ever seen anything that states where the I6's were built.

    Yup...

Actually all the small blocks prior to '68 were built at Cleveland, possibly some were built later as well(not 100% on that detail but 302 defiantly came from Cleveland in '68)... Beginning with '68 production, Windsor became the main player for small blocks and introduced the 351 small block for the '69 model year(Windsor built 289 in '68)...

Until 1970 production there was no such thing as a Windsor engine family(all were just small blocks, incl 351W), but with the introduction of the 351 Cleveland it became necessary to distinguish which 351 was being, discussed, serviced etc...

BTW all 351W were built at Windsor...

Yes, all the early Mav got C4, for the automatic... In '70 there was a semiautomatic version with Hi Lo on the quadrant, only year it was used I believe...

Some time in the latter '70s Ford used a Jatco(Japanese) in some models but I dunno if Mav/Comet ever got one...
