Interesting, The Comet/Mav manifolds just kind of head for the firewall at a real lazy down angle. That's not what I would've thought at all. There's not very much room at all on the drivers side to get down past all the steering gear before you hit the firewall. I was almost certain the stock pieces would've been looking down at a pretty good angle. I doesn't really make a difference, as long as everything fits and works. They certainly need a good sandblasting. Should I have a machine shop resurface the gasket area to check for and/or take out any warping, or do you just blast em and slap em on?
I don't remember configuration of pipe on Comet... Apparently was "S" bend on each side, whereas Stang, Fairlane, Falcon, etc used a 45*-ish angle on driver's side and S on passenger... That could have been for ease of assembly on assembly line...
I would look into Tri-Y's if they'll fit a Mav. Use soft copper gaskets and fully compress em tightening and they'll out last your brother. I have Hedman 4 into 1's on mine with NO clearance issues underneath aside from the shock tower clearance (shaved mine off the bat)
I went through A TON of hassle to hunt down 351 windsor manifolds from late 80''s early 90''s fuel injected ford pickups. They have a 2 1/2" downpipe so I figured more flow, but after all the hassle, they didn't fit. They hit the shock towers. I ended up having to use hedman shortys. I haven't actually bolted them up yet, but I have heard more than a couple guys complan that they come too close, or interfere with the idler arm on the passenger side. I expect to fit them up soon, and I'll post as soon as see how it goes.
I have a set I would be willing to let go of. I do have a T5, and I know they work. Where are you located?
I have Hedman's on my 302, they don't interfer w/ the IDLER arm; the problem is w/ PITTMAN arm. I have not heard anyone state, issues w/ IDLER arm...
