Yeah, we tend to overlook the Mexican 4 speed Mavericks since we've never had them in the U.S. You guys need to ship us a few of those 4 speed cars.
No need to question or compare them to the stang, they will always be more scarce and much more unique. I would own a mustang though but it would have to be a hybrid. It would be a 69 sport roof with a 70 nose, can't stand the quad headlights. Nova's got V-8's starting in 63 if I remember correctly and in 66 or 67 they received a 350 horse 327. Many muscle cars had siblings with 6's, you could have two near identicle 70 Chevelles side by side at a show with one being an LS6 and the other sporting a 250 six. The Chrysler K cars had Shelby models too...., now that should be an even bigger blow to the Shelby GT owners!
Based on that picture PRedfan, I think they have it backwards. That Mav looks so much more appealing and sharp than that Stang.
I love my Maverick (my great grandmother bought it brand new), but I wouldn't have minded if she'd have bought a pastel blue 70 Mustang coupe instead.
I agree but not all the Stangs were an ugly stepchild as were the 71-73's. I have had several Stangs and still have the 65 2+2 Fastback but the 71's and 73 are all gone. They financed other projects. Back in the day, as it has been stated many times the Stang was Fords "Golden Egg" and the Maverick/Comet's were the economy car with with an edge. They had sex appeal that caught the public's eye. They had it all, Sporty looks and economy in all aspects. It don't seem fair that a primo low milage Mav or Comet is not worth what it cost in parts to restore a Stang.
Why Mustang and not a Maverick? What are you saying you think the 71-73 Mustang were ugly? I think they were the best of the bunch followed by the 74-78. I think Ford should have continued the 71-73 in special low production runs as the Mach 1 with a fiberglass or now day's carbon fiber body, maybe with the Australian Ford Falcon body. Again what's not to love about them?
jn, it is as everything, just a matter of personal prefferance. I have had several 71 to 73 mustangs both conv and Mach 1's however in my opinion they were not the best looking stang built. My favorite is the 64 1/2 to 66 and then 67 to 70 but even then I did not care for the coupes and some of the conv's. If everyone liked the same thing this world would be rather dull. In closing, I can honestly say that I appreciate all cars, real cars that is. It is nice to see them and remember those days or to admire the workmanship that went into them.
Gotta admit that I am a little partial to Mustangs. I have owned several back in the 80s and 90s...but then I had kids and couldn't afford them anymore. Oh well I still have one.
I think I agree with john on the aussie facolns of the early 70's I would take one of those any day over a mustang... of course I would make it look like this but then again I would love for them to bring their current falcon/falcon utes up here too I think those things are sick. That and they are already running a supercharged coyote 5.0
Thanks Mark! For those of you here who haven't done this yet check out the links page at Ford Mustang Unlimited and the Australian Ford Falcon Club there's a COOL article with lots of pictures on Ford Falcon Cobra and other Autralian Falcons they are beautiful. I think they said only 500 1978 Ford Falcon Cobra's were made. Note:The Falcon Cobra did not have the rear wheel air scoops 2nd picture. 65 Comet I understand the matter of personal preference for me growing up near Hill AFB as a kid all the airman and High School kids had 60’s and 70’s muscle cars of all makes & models and by the time I got old enough to drive most all of them were gone except for Mustangs, Firebirds and Cameros. So I started off with a beater 65 Mustang then a 72 Comet GT, Plymouth Sapporo, CJ-5 Jeep, 87 Escort GT, I liked that it had wing windows, a 94 Escort LX much later my Maverick and a Kia Spectra for a daily driver.
Those falcons look a lot like the mustang Milano concept I guess that's where it ended, I like them very much! I wish I could get one here, hmmm... looks really hard to accomplish, so sad
Maybe not as hard as you think. I go to a big Ford/Mustang show in March each year. There's a guy there that owns about 3 of them. He's had them all at the show at once. Will probably be there again this year. Awesome cars!
