also... some glass installers will not put a new glass in if there is rust.. so make sure you get all of it done before you call to have it put back in

Unless i am mistaken, this vehicle had the vinyl top on it. the picture that looks like fiberglassing is actually the glue and some fiber from the top. the rust holes are spots that were not sealed well and moisture got in to the vinyl under the top and sat. mine had similar rust, but was only at surface level when i pulled the top. had i waited however it would be like this. hope your rust isnt too much more, a couple of holes arent that big of a deal.

Ya, I ripped the vinyl top off. I hadn't planned on it (needed to be done tho), but one day I started picking at the areas that were bubbling, and before you know it I was ripping sheafs of vinyl off . Not that I don't like the top, but I think mine'll look better without.

It's got holes high (roof lines) and some small ones at the bottoms of the quarter panels (no big deal), but no holes in the floor boards or trunk, which is awesome. I haven't taken my angle grinder to the roof holes yet, but I see several areas where there's surface rust, possible all the way through. I just hope that the whole front edge isn't shot :90:. That would suck. I think I'll do what you said, Frank, and attack it carefully with the angle grinder and a wire brush to see how extensive the rust is. Once that's done, I'll decide whether to have it welded or like mavaholic said, weld in a roof from a donor car. My uncle welds, so hopefully I can talk him into doing it for one or the other for me .

I've actually finished the trunk, including POR-15, and I know it's unrelated, but I gotta show it off. Looks purdy!!

Thanks for all the advice, you guys have really helped out. The more I work on her, the more rust I find . Good thing I think she's worth it!

MaverickMat, I just realized your '74 Grabber is the exact opposite that mine was originally. Mine was originally all white with green stripes and green tail panel. Yours is all green with white stripes and white tail panel. :)

Frank, is that your '73? If so it's came a long way!

I didnt mean you have to replace the roof, Just small sections. Here are some pics as an example. My windshield cornors were rotted out on mine so I cut patches from a doner car. After cutting off the outer layer, I found the inner structure was also rusted out. So after I welded some new metal in the inner structure, I welded on the patch I had cut out.

Yeah, that looks pretty nice. You're right, I could just cut out the sections that are bad. I might be able to get by with just welding in patches tho, if the holes stay small. We'll see what happens when I start grinding.
