Maybe it's just me but someone else mentioned it: Why is the front nose that of a Comet?
Never really read a sufficient answer for that...

I would like to see the back end of the "SHELBY MAVERICK" it could be a Comet with Grabber stripes and front bumper.

Here's a shot of the back............looks like Comet taillights to me.

All the pictures we've seen are from the Mexico City Auto Show. This picture is from an article in Motor Trend Magazine of the same show, can't remember what issue, late 71 or early 72. Funny thing is, the author seemed more interested in writing about the trip to Mexico and his trouble getting there than about the show itself, so there is really no mention of any of the cars.

Well I guess that answers THAT question.

As for a fast Focus, I know Rousch does a package for the Focus as I just saw a documentary on it from either TLC or the SPEED channel, which probably bumps everything up a notch on that little car. Not to jack a convro.

nope shelby maverick. i never heard anything about shelby doing something with mercury. and the maverick emblems and strips give it away. i think since they were both so close to being the same car they added some comet parts on the maverick. plus the paper says shelby maverick. plus the blacked out grille. sorry

The blacked out grill (which in this case is also a Comet grill) came on the Comet GT too didn't it? It's definitely a comet, which begs the question why did they not just call it a Shelby Comet (has a nice ring to it doesn't it? :D ).

    1 Comet hood
    2 Comet hood scoop
    3 Comet grill
4 Comet tail panel and lights

    1 maverick bumper
    2 grabber stripes

    Must be a SHELBY COMET

    re Foreign Mavericks

Hi I'm new here. I work overseas and have for years so no classic Fords for me. However, I have followed this thread and the intense debate it has generated. Since I am new to the site, I don't know if there a place to post pix, but I do have an extensive selection of brochure and ad scans of Mavs and Comets from the US, Brazil, Venezuela and Mexico, and would be more than happy to donate them if there is a provison on the site to post them. What u will find interesting is that the Mav program from each country differed in certain ways, although the Brazilian versions take the cake for pure bizarity, I mean, 4 on the tree?, Willys F-head 6-bangers?, glove boxes cut into the upper right of the dash instead of down low, radios where the AC vents should go, no headrests or shoulder belts, things like that . FWIW the run of the mill Mexican Mavs were only available with 289 and 3 on the tree right from the start, and were dubbed "Falcon Maverick". Also FWIW my dad bought a brand new 72 Comet LDO with 302, AC, whatever he could get back then, so there's my personal connection. Let me know if you are interested in these brochures and tell me where, or even if, I can upload them and get back to me. Thanks
