Got beat by a fart piped Honda Civic in my '74 Grabber one night (street racing). Was in a buisness park where alot of the local kids go to street race. Very deserted place at night and very well lit with street lights down both sides of the road. Thats ok. My '72 beat him by a quarter of a car length and did a nice burnout takeing off. I'll smoke him bad if I put in a 302. (and I don't want to hear it about street racing...)
not bad fellas but i might win the booby prize. we do get a prize rick, right?anyways racing at jefferson pageland 3 years ago and i wanted to be cool like the rest of the racers and put it in neutral and kill the motor and coast to my pit area. i use a reverse pattern and when i went for neutral i hit reverse by accident. i car came to a stop real quick!!! naturally not in front of my pit area!!i knew right away what i had done. the days of being cool ended right then!!now i kill it and put in park at my pit area.no i didn't hurt the trans!!what a nerd
No booby prize for you Mike...so far I think the best one is the women launching in reverse I'll be comin to Carolina soon...gotta get some pics of our cars together
I was in such a hurry to get to the staging lines I forgot to un-hook the battery charger from my trunk batteries. I was wondering why everyone was waving and shouting at me. To make a long story short I had a .000 light and a 1.39 sixty foot!! I think I'll drag my charger along more offen. Terry
Purge valve hung open at the starting line. Emptied damn near the whole 20# bottle before I could get the harness unlatched and reach the bottle to turn it off. That's when I decided to start purging the engine through the motor.
our next race no prob rick here is our next race. we do doubles now i usually race gc drag sometimes brackets
Won't make that one Mike...be runnin 1/4 mile in Atlanta that weekend...Fun Ford event...I'd sure like to run that 5.70 index class some time though
In my 73 V8 Gremlin i didn't have a V8 rear as it started life as a 232 inline 6 banger ,so i was doing some street racing and i was racing this blue tubbed bass boat metalflake looking 74 Chevy Vega and i grenaded the damn rear as i hit the gas .that was nite my buddies 74 Gremin he blew a slick dragging a blown alchohol 67 Nova and nearly took him and that guy and his nova out ,yeah the nova woulda cleaned my buds gremlins clock even with his AMC 360 with a tunnel ram but he was drunk and had to prove his 12 sec gremlins might to some 8 sec car LOL
I had run cars at the dragstrip for years, but nothing quicker than 14 second cars. I had just completed a 347, C4, Mustang and took it to the track for the first time. I was very nervous about how the car would launch and if my engine building skills were adequate. I did a burnout and staged. My heart was pounding and my leg was shaking. When I launched, I couldn't believe how it set me back in the seat! I shifted to second and it was really pulling, then I shifted to 3rd and the engine revved to the moon and I was coasting. I was in a panic until I realized that I forgot to shift back to low after my burnout and had left the line in 2nd gear. It still ran 12 flat. The next run was perfect and in the 10's. There have been hundreds of passes since then, but I think of that, everytime I stage.
That's not all that uncommon. I ran my totally stock 1990 5.0 Mustang convertible down the 1/4 mile....... 15+ seconds. Only after spending $5000 more did it get respectable (7.2 @ 101 mph in the 1/8th). A LOT of people think their car will be faster than actual the first time out - but still embarassing.
Just found this...........First time out at the track. Killed the car behind the lines to keep it cool........this involved flipping the switch to kill the fuel pump......Long story short- Started my burnout and about half way through it-car dies. I'm in a panic until I see the switch is off. Flipped it on, staged, light changed and off I went. Was all good till I bypassed second and went from 1st to 3rd. Yessirree Ran me a 17.something. Like I said- first time. At least now I might not miss second. Might still forget the pump though.
