    If that BD18 is 9D18, you're talking about a head cast April 18 1969...

    That's 8D18 so April 18 1968, right??? Wrong...

The heads have bolt down rockers that didn't exist till the '77-'78 model year so are '78, '88, or '98 heads... They are likely either '88 or '98 as the '78 had the casting(engineering) number in plain sight on upper portion of head... Late heads have the number in a small pocket on deck side of head... My guess is they are probably E7TE Truck or HO 5.0 heads... It's a possibility they are GT40 heads, will have three small bars on either end if that's the case...

A friend of mine had a '68 302 block (complete engine) and was told it was a 302. When he went to rebuild it, he discovered that it was a 289. 'Just had a 302 block. He rebuilt it with a 302 crank, rods, & pistons and now it's a real 302.

By the way, not to change the subject, but where are the numbers for I.D.ing a 351 Windsor located? Are they in the same place as the 302 (behind the starter)?

In '68 Windsor built 289(never a 302) but used 302 blocks, have one out in my garage... Those blocks are C8OE-6015-B...

Yeah I believe 351 had casting no in same area...

Where would the three small bars be? Inside the head or outside?

Sorry for the confusion, no Windsor built 302 in '68... Cleveland no doubt built a few hundred thousand(which is where the J codes were built)...

Why Windsor built 289 in '68 & not 302 is a bit of a mystery, but Bob Mannel(Fairlane Club) has researched small blocks and probably knows more about the '62-'69 221-302 than everyone on the net combined(at least if they haven't read his book)... If he says it's so, you can take it to the bank...

Be sure to check out the samples listed in buttons near top of page...

Sorry about that but for stockish builds those heads are plenty useful...

Oh, no worries Krazy Comet, I appreciate your help and expertise. I hate to tell some its from a 68 302 Shelby GT350 when its not.

Anyway, I'll slap $500 on it and see what happens.

    Again, I appreciate your help.

Are the later model 289 and 302 blocks the same. I thought all 302 blocks were the same except the Boss 302's. Even if it came out of a GT350, truck, car etc. i've even saw some marine 302 engines and industrial 302 engines.

Other than the Boss 302 & Mexican 302 block all 302 blocks were the same up to 1974, Before the 1968 model year all 289 blocks were the same ! For 1968 ford increased the length of the liner in the bores to accommodate the longer stroke! I was told by a ford technician that all 289 and 302 built for 1968 had the longer 302 liners
