Has anyone come across a manufacturer who makes a modern AM/FM/CD that would be a direct fit into the bezel for my 73?
AutoKrafters shows a AM/FM digital radio that is supposed to fit. If I remember right is has AUX jacks for external CD.
I have a JVC radio/CD/Blue Tooth with 4 speakers that fit the radio space in my 74 Grabber perfectly. I would be interested in selling it. Send me a PM if interested.
Bingo, and the early ones have a smaller opening than the approx '74 up... I do, don't own a smart phone or anything sattelite... BIG thing for me is the 6CD Mp3 changer in the Grand Marquis(added from a Escape)...
Thanks. That will save me time looking for something that doesn't exist. Well, it beats listening to all the little voices in my head.
Keep the factory setup intact, install an amp with additional speakers, and plug an mp3 player with a FM tuner into the amp. You could put way more music on it than a cd changer could hold, it keeps the factory look, and since you take it with you, no one can steal it.
Good luck plugging a mp3 player into a factory radio you might be looking along time for that Jack. Plus those old radios are nothing but distortion and kinda like a audible tach.just upgrade and be done with it.
Noise wasn't the radio's issue, installing non suppression wires and failed noise condenser on charging system caused much of the noise... Also poor antenna(water inside) and misadjusted peaking trimmer on AM radios caused noise... That's four issues that unless vehicle was taken to dealer or auto radio service facility were rarely addressed...
May be why FM replaced AM as the prefered medium??? Was fine in the '60s & earlier, never missed what you never had... You guys ain't lived till you've had a car radio with tubes and a viberator... The upscale versions(eight tubes vs six) used push-pull audio that could produce approx 10 watts...
I've had them and I'm telling you that they are pos. If they are so good and dependable why don't they still have them? A whole 10 Watts ha ,boy now that's impressive.
