Micah- spot on! Sucking through the hoses produced a result not unlike sipping a straw in an empty glass. So, guess it's on to finding the vac advance module somewhere. Thank you everyone! Sorry I didn't get to reply to everyone but it has all been real helpful.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, it has been a while since I had the six banger: Top is retard, bottom (diaphragm) is advance. Micah
GOOD DEAL, hope that solves it. Just get a rebuilt distributor. By now, that thing is worn out and the shaft is wobbling and effecting your timing/dwell. Should not be expensive. Micah
Personally speaking, I'd just as soon buy a cheap rebuilt stock distributor from a local parts store than bolt one of those offshore pieces of crap on anything I owned. And at least you have a local warranty if something goes wrong too.
I put one on my Monarch a1 Cardone from Summit nice piece no problems at all DIRT CHEAP well made and if it was bad SUMMIT would have taken it back
New distributor is a success. Now, it might also interest someone to see the other culprit of the rattling engine bay. A busted exhaust pipe gasket! Ordered today, and I imagine everything's good as new after that. Nothing else could possibly go wrong in a car that's almost half a century old.
aluminum, copper, or better yet.. remflex gaskets are worth their weight in gold(they're pretty light so I can honestly say that).
