Hello long story short I bought a 1967 Mustang that for some reason someone installed a 302 from a 1974 Maverick. Two questions if you don't mind. First: Is the block a non standard 302 foot print? I could not find a motor mount to use to re install the motor after the rebuild. I had to go back and figure out the Frankenstein mounts that the last owner used! Oddly enough Oldsmobile mounts.... This puts the block at an odd angle but it did work. Second: Could anyone list a part # for a water pump bolt kit. I have a new Tuff Stuff Water Pump to install and want to have a fresh bolt kit ready to use!
all Ford's Windsor blocks use the same motor mounting points. Need to get the correct mounts that are intended to be used with the specific chassis the motor will be sitting in. As for the bolt kits? I always use stock bolts or stainless pieces from the hardware store whenever possible. Google is your friend. http://www.summitracing.com/search/...rtOrder=Ascending&keyword=water pump bolt kit
I should rephrase my 1st question. When I purchased 1967 Mustang motor mounts to be used on the 1974 302 block they did not work. There was a gap between the mounts and the mounting points on the frame. There was a huge gap between mounts and car. I could fit my hand on both sides of the motor mounts when installed on the block.
you also need the frame standoffs since the mounts don't sit directly on the frame. http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n225/CMF18/passmount.jpg
So something like this? http://www.cjponyparts.com/engine-frame-side-mounting-bracket-set-small-block-1965-1970/p/EFB1/
Yep that looks like them. (I have two 67's) Since they are missing yours might be a original six cyl car and they took all of that out. Does yours have 4 bolt lugs or 5 bolt on the front and rearend? If it's 4 bolt you have weaker 6cyl springs.
The Vin decodes as an original V8 car. Following the paper trail that I have it looks like someone bought the car minus an engine and for some reason they went with a 1974 Maverick engine to replace it. I guess when they pulled the last V8 out they forgot to leave the engines supports attached to the car. Then instead of finding out why stock Mustangs mounts weren't working like I'm doing now they used Engine Mounts from a 1968 Oldsmobile 350 Engine and that bypasses the need for engine supports.
For probably 30+ years after I swapped the V8 into mine I ran Mustang motor mounts bolted directly to the frame with 3/4" spacers between the mounts and the block. When I did the original swap in '73 you couldn't find the frame stands anywhere, dealer or junk yard, so we had to improvise.
