What are the dimensions of the brake light switch nylon spacers. I have a new switch but only one spacer that is 0.1 inch thick. My brake lights work only if I put push the switch horizontally left or right. It seems I need to shim it up so it will be tighter on the shaft.

Thanks for your help. I installed a new switch with the correct washers. The brake lights work if I push on either side of the switch but nothing when I depress the brake pedal. The seats are out of the car so I can see what’s going on. The spring in the switch does not depress when the brake pedal is pushed. Everything is installed as shown in the diagram. Everything is new including the master cylinder and push rod. Do you think a copper shim between the switch contact face and push rod would work?

I've run into issues with aftermarket pushrods not having a deep enough pad on the end to actuate the switch. I would compare your with a factory rod. Shimming would work but not sure how permanent a fix it would be.

Thanks but I'm flying blind. I threw away the old master cylinder and rod a long time ago. Never even considered this would be a problem. That brake light system is an example of Ford engineering at its worst. It’s right up there with the fuse box location. My new master cylinder came with two rods. Don't recall which one I installed but I can tell you the second rod is 6 1/4long

Maverick rod is 6-7/16" long...from the edge to the pin hole is 9/64"

I had some thin 0.01 copper sheet metal. I cut two strips just wide enough to set snugly in the brake switch saddle. Now the brake lights come on when I barely move the pedal. Might have to take one of the shims out.
