My car developed a situation today where the roof lamp stays on. The headlight sw. will not turn it off. What wud/might be the first thing to look at?
I am thinking switch may be the culprit, at least, that's my first thought.

Door switch cud very well be the problem. Hoping to hear from someone who may have had this issue and possibly saving some diagnostic time. Anyone?

I would pull the kick panels and disconnect both of the door switches. They are the most common source of that problem. If they test good you could check the dome light itself for a grounding condition. After that the only reasonable thing is to check the switch. That's how I always checked that kind of fault when I was at the Ford Dealerships.

Thanks for your input! I pulled the drivers side sw. today to find out what the part looked like to match it for replacement. I am ordering 2 switches tommorrow from NPD for Mustangs that match what I have. The switches are original, so going to replace them whether that's the issue or not. I don't think there's a problem w/ the headlight sw., it functions normally in all other aspects.

Look at the passenger's side too. I think they are different than the driver's side.

OK! Thanks -- Will do. I did see something on different model years referencing something on pass/drivers side switches. I will pull the pass side out today b4 I order any. Appreciate the heads-up...

Got the dome light squared-away today. Door switch was the problem - don't know which one was defective, but assume the door switch. That switch gets far more exercise. Now, I don't have to worry bout running my battery down over night or going w/o the light.

Electrical gremlins can be a PITA.. but it sure is gratifying when you can trace issues and figure things out yourself. Glad you got it sorted out because that type of ongoing issue eventually eats up batteries, regulators, and even alternators over longer periods of time.
