Picked up some new BG Rod Works 17x7 4" BS wheels and 235/45/17 Nitto tires from Discount Tires and wanted to verify if these will fit the car with 1 1/4 coils cut from the front spring. I test fitted the front last night and when turning the tire I have 1/8" of clearance at the front lower portion of the fender. I still need to have the front end aligned as I replaced the LCA and outer tie rod ends with Moog problem solver components.

Looking for some direction on the Caster and Camber settings for the car, its a 1972 Comet 302

You are probably going to need to roll the front fender lips so you don't cut the sidewalls. Im running close to the same size but with less drop.

For the rear, they'd be perfect with a Maverick rearend, but on the front, they may rub on the outside.

pretty damned short tire.. can't see how those could be such a big issue with only 7" wide rims having 4" backspacing. There seems to be tons of room on the outside of these cars hubs with a 6.5" factory wheel. Aside from your caster settings.. maybe spacers will help?

image1.jpeg image1.jpeg Thanks for the input guys,
I spoke with a Mechanic friend with a Maverick drag car and he said we can adjust the front end so it has 2-3* positive Castor, and should center the wheels in the opening

What brand wheels are those, and what will you be running for centercaps?

I believe they are wheel vintiques billet aluminum. I haven't looked into the center cap yet.

I don't think Wheel Vintiques make those anymore. Just the 14s & 15s.

I just looked and they don't have them on their website. I did a Google search and Mustang Depot has them listed. Who knows if they can actually get them.

With the huge influx of offshore parts being brought in these days it's pretty damned hard to know who actually makes what anymore. And I've been told by some of the mfgrs themselves that some models are just imported raw castings and then machined here. So "American Made" is a very loose and generalized term being tossed around.

As far as these particular models go.. I see and know a lot of these wheels are being used on Chryslers these days. They also make them for the late model stuff too. American Racing and many others are distributing them. I think the wider price ranging and 1 or 2 piece design should paint a picture as to which ones are which and actually being cast here as well.

I think these are U.S made being they're a lot pricier than the American Racing stuff

Sounds about right.. likely a 2 piece design as well.

Actually True and that's the wheel company too ! $300 a piece and that's before shipping but Here's a link to the exact wheels
    http://www.uswheel.com/collections/muscle-car/products/magrally

I don't know as it doesn't say if they're 1 or 2 piece wheels .... I'd assume they're just cast 1 piece. My buddy Michael has these in 17" for a '72 Cutlass and they look pretty nice but he was into a grand & some change with tires installed etc. Way outta my price for tires & rims lol
